I just found out I am preggers, but am also just a few pounds the wrong side of obese. Is anyone else needing to lose weight whilst pregnant , or is there a support thread already? I need some buddies with this!

You shouldn't diet to lose weight whilst pregnant, rather you should be aiming to maintain your weight for as long as possible. Growing a baby is hard work and your body needs fuel, you should talk to your GP or midwife if you have concerns about your weight during pregnancy. IME the midwife brings it up at your booking appointment and should give you information and support about staying healthy through your pregnancy, she may also refer you to a consultant dietician.

You can follow slimming world while pregnant with permission from your midwife, I used to do SW to lose my baby weight after having DS so I'm loosely sticking to it now to minimise extra weight gain (currently 18 weeks) but in all honesty it went out the window during the first trimester as I just had to eat what I could to minimise nausea :)

I am on the heavy side, and have started exercising and eating more healthily. Not a diet, but good tasty low fat food in smaller portions. Exercise us just walking atm but might work up to the gym!

Hey! I'm 17 weeks and have a raised BMI. I've not deliberately lost weight but with the nausea and decreased appetite I lost weight in the first trimester and now it's currently stable. I'm just eating what I like, within reason of course! I just can't eat the same size portions anymore. I wouldn't recommend losing weight or doing any strenuous exercise when pregnant because your body produces ketones which aren't good for baby. Good luck!

I'm not trying to lose weight, I'm just hoping I don't put any on! With morning (all day) sickness and decreased appetite, I've lost a good four kilos and I'm only in week 9! (not that you'd know cos I'm also bloated and my boobs have went giant)
I'm eating smaller portions and I can't stomach sweet things and I'm also avoiding wheat where I can as it makes me more bloated. The first time I was pregnant, I ate everything in sight but I put on four stone then!

We can help with support not to overeat, but we got the rest of our lives to diet after baby comes!

Could I jump in here? I'm not overweight, but a few pounds more than I like to be. I was going to try and lose those (which is normally quite quick and easy for me), but I've just found out I'm pg. Can I still lose a few pounds? I won't make myself miscarry, will I?

I am not aware of any evidence that loosing weight , particularly if obese is unhealthy.
There is though lots of evidence that excessive weight in pregnancy and birth can be dangerous.
I'm not talking starving here, just stopping overeating.

I was on mega diet just before I found out I was pregnant. Whilst I've stopped losing weight, I defo haven't put even an ounce on and I'm 15 weeks. I'm not eating unhealthy snacks and if I'm hungry, I try to wait till next meal time. My dad is a doctor and he told me that you shouldn't lose weight during pregnancy. ( Although he might just have been saying that to me as im quite skinny). You'll lose lots after baby's born though, you can go back on your diet (and with bfeeding as well)

There is nothing wrong with following a healthy balanced diet when you are pregnant but do not follow a fad diet as that can be risky.

I'm 32 weeks and have lost about 8lb after an early gestational diabetes diagnosis. I'm avoiding all sugars (except lower GI fruits) and refined carbs. I make sure I am never hungry and fill up on green stuff. I feel great, to be honest! I think it's possible to do as long as you're careful and perhaps keep your midwife/doctor in the loop.
