I have type 1 and the main difference is a LOT more hospital appointments. Badly controlled blood sugars can be really dangerous for the baby so they have got to be as perfect as you can get them, which gets harder as your insulin resistance increases the further on you get. If you have high blood sugars it can result in complications including having a massive baby thats just too big to deliver naturally. You will also be induced at about 38 weeks rather than left to go into labour naturally and be under consultant care. The pay off though is a scan every 4 weeks,I look at it as the silver lining in the diabetes cloud.

All going well though there's no reason you shouldn't have a perfectly normal pregnancy,I'm 24+5 and have zero complications so far as a result of my diabetes. Are you pregnant already op or planning a baby? Speak with your diabetes team if youre worried, they can go over everything in much better detail than the quick summary I've just gave you. Some hospitals also run a pre conception diabetes clinic you may be able to attend if you are diabetic yourself.

I second the oodles of appointments! Once a fortnight at the moment I attend the hospital and that is increased to weekly when my blood results are variable. I also speak to my diabetes nurse between 3 and 5 times a week.

In my case I have had additional scans and more are scheduled towards the end of my pregnancy. Been told I will not go past 38weeks and may be induced earlier if my baby exceeds certain measurements.

I have certainly been taken great care of and have a team of people looking out for baby and me.

Hi all

i am type 2 diagnosed after 3months of preg . Currently running my 5th .then by hba1c was 6.3 .My diabetic team people are not so good although I hve a appointment every 2 weeks .My sugars are okies they come just within range.Sometimes they dont .I tried talking to my diabetic nurse but she is often too busy .From what I can sense you both have a positive experience .I hope you can tell me where you are booked ?

Regards
G
