Baby back to back at 34 weeks

Just wondering if anyone has had this and how common is it? My midwife told me to bounce on a gym ball whilst watching tv etc. Is it still early days and do I have chance for the baby to move?

Plenty of time for baby to turn but there are things you can do to help it happen. Google optimal fetal positioning or here's some info here

DD was back to back then. I can't remember the exact time she moved but it was a few weeks before labour and I remember it (or what I think was it) as I nearly passed out when she did a massive flip Grin Loads of time for the baby to move but yes, get bouncing on that ball! I certainly wouldn't worry about labour at this stage, you have nearly 2 months for the baby to turn.

My advice is go swimming. It's lovely and relaxing anyway in late pregnancy as you can swim as normal. I'm sure it had a lot to do with dd2's good positioning.

Even it doesn't turn, back to back labour/birth is manageable. DS1 was 9lb+ and born back to back with only gas and air...

Thank you. Feel a bit better about it now. I'll get bouncing!

I was told by a stand in midwife at 33 weeks that the baby was B2B. She actually said "ooh, I wouldn't be sitting down much if I was you" (not very helpful really)

I swam, walked, bounced, spent time on all fours, adjusted my work chair, put a cushion in the car, lay in the correct position etc - you name it, I did it (apart from the hanging off the bed upside down thing - I couldn't manage that!)

Basically I was uncomfortable, couldn't relax and it was on my mind pretty much constantly.

I then saw my midwife 2 weeks later and the baby had turned, which I was pleased about, but she also said to me that there are studies that show that babies who are delivered B2B aren't actually mostly in a B2B position in the womb before birth but they turn backwards last minute before delivery.

Also, babies who are B2B prior to labour quite often turn the right way last minute.

She also said it wasn't a good thing that I'd been made to worry about it so early when there was plenty of time left.

I don't honestly know what's true - but I would definitely say read up on it, and consider your general sitting posture, spending some time on the ball etc - I liked the ball anyway. But please don't let it worry you and don't stop yourself being comfortable. It's better to get good sleeps and be able to relax comfortably if you can.

Just wanted to add re when you should be doing something about baby positioning.
My DS was b2b and this slowed labour to the point where he was finally delivered (after failed forceps) by emcs.
When I was preg with dc2 I had to see a vbac consultant who told me that I needed to be using a birthing ball from 26/28 weeks. (dd was not b2b and a quick, successful vbac)
Now 28 weeks with dc3 and been using ball for a couple of weeks.

My last dc was b2b all the way through pregnancy and birth, compared to my previous 2 vbacs I would say it was a little harder pushing him out but he was also bigger not by much but I don't know if maybe that contributed. I would say labour was not as painful with him but again I don't know if his positioning was anything to do with it.

My first ds was back to back with me all the way through. I tried everything that's been suggested on this thread & none of it made a difference. Within the first few hours of labour, ds turned into exactly the right position of his own accord. Midwife told me that is very common. 90% of babies will do that. They are incredibly clever & somehow know what they need to do. I'm pregnant with dc2 & waiting to find out what position baby is in but if its back to back I'm just not going to worry about it. Midwife said to me it can be unhelpful for women to worry about what position baby is in prior to labour as it doesn't necessarily make a difference to the position the baby takes in labour. Relax & enjoy the end of your pregnancy & enjoy as much sitting down & rest as you like!

Mine was back to back until last week at 38 weeks, and some don;t move until you go into labour. I just made sure not to lie on my back or slouch while sitting. So lying on my side, sitting with cushions behind my back etc...you could even spend some time on all fours every day to get gravity to help.

But as some have said above - you really don't need to worry about the baby's position, especially at this stage.

Thank you, you really have made me feel better! I've ordered a gym ball and will use that to try and help. Will just go with the flow though. I sit on a saddle seat at work so I'm sure that must help. Just been sitting slightly higher now so my knees are lower.
