Does anyone know about scans / membrane separation?

Hi all

I'm feeling really anxious after a scan today. I'd had a tiny amount of brown blood a couple of days ago and was referred for a scan (not Uk so I saw a consultant). I'm just under 14 weeks.

The baby was fine, good heartbeat etc so I was very relieved. Then she pointed out a very fine white hairline above the baby that she said was probably the cause of the blood. She described it as a slight separation of some membrane. It looked to me that it came from around 1/4 of the outside of the sac, having googled I can only find pictures where the line is almost completely circling the baby.

She was very blase and said there was no reason for concern and that it will probably reattach itself. She said there was no reason to think it would cause any problems but if I have more bleeding to go back.

She said it wasn't near the placenta and that the placenta was well attached.

Of course I came home and googled and it doesn't seem so straightforward afterall. I keep seeing references to increased chances of miscarriage, links to abnormalities etc. Links to issues with the cord etc. I guess I can ask lots more at my 20 wk scan but thats in a while.

She did look closely at my bloods from combined screening and said there was nothing pointing towards anything unusual in terms of chromasomal anomalies.

But I'm freaking out. I thought the scan would reassure me but it hasn't. I feel more anxious than before.

Can anyone reassure me? Any sonographers out there?!

Thanks

Bump anyone?

I feel so incredibly anxious. I feel like such an idiot for not asking more questions or asking to be called back for another scan. I was just so pleased to see a heartbeat that I didn't really consider that anything else might be an issue.

Best advice - step away from Google. It ALWAYS brings up the worst case scenario.

Give your midwife a call to chat about the scan. They can refer you to a consultant if needed.

Thanks or your reply. I have done exactly that and am waiting for my appointment to come through. Still worrying though...
