38 weeks plus and baby is still constantly changing position, normal?

This is DC2 but last DC was back to back with anterior placenta so movement and the amount I'm feeling is totally different this time. This bump is constantly changing position from breech to transverse (and a very brief period head wedged in my left hip) but it's never been properly head down, let alone engaged. I've a date for a section in case it doesn't go head down, but is it normal for a baby to move this much at such a late stage? Recent scan showed that fluid levels are normal and growth is good (on the bigger size if anything) and bump is measuring perfect for this stage. Whilst obviously I look heavily pregnant I wouldn't say I look huge so not sure how it's still got all this room! It just doesn't want to stay still or commit to a position, anyone else experience this? Time is running out, when I last saw the mw she said the baby just appears to be unstable, does this mean a section is more than likely now? Regardless of where they are on my section date?

When did you last talk to the Midwife? This close to due date I would speak to them again if you are transverse a lot. Mine was unstable lie at 38.4. (I had a big-ish bump but DD was turning round and round and round without me feeling her even move.) Well she was transverse at the MW appointment and they freaked out and sent me for a scan. I had to go into hospital and was offered a CS that day or to stay in being monitored until she went head down. The worry is that if your waters break while baby is transverse then you can get cord prolapse which is serious.

So please speak to your MW and be assessed for risk. Sorry if this freaks you out - I don't mean to be sensationalist but it is a worry.
Let us know.

Thanks Bronze, I've been told about cord prolapse and to go straight in if waters break. I last saw a MW last week who referred me for the scan which on that day confirmed baby was oblique breech so they weren't that worried. The next day the baby was def transverse, since then it's been everywhere but not properly head down. My section is booked for next week, and I'm not sure if I'll see anyone before then? I'm just amazed at how much it moves still when everyone says they run out of room. I feel a bit in limbo about what to do, I've left a message for my MW saying I've a section booked so I guess they think I'm out of their hands now. Not really sure what to do, if anything.

How are you doing? Hopefully baby has gone head down now?

DS was an unstable lie baby, often transverse. I was admitted to hospital at 38+6 for ELCS at 40 weeks (due to risk of cord prolapse)

I'm 36+6 and my baby seems to keep switching positions ALL THE TIME. She's upside down but sometimes she changes to oblique lie, and it also seems she changes from posterior to anterior and vice verse constantly... This is my second as well, growth is normal, the amniotic fluid is normal too. I just don't understand how she still has space to move so much, my first born would just stay upside down and not move at all. I was planning for a homebirth, I have a scan in a few days to see how's she lying, and if she's not properly upside down I won't be able to have it :/
