I'm not pregnant....yet. But i'm hoping there are some older mamas to be on here that can help.

I've just turned 35 and even though I have 3 children from my husbands previous marriage we have decided we want another.

I know the risks involved and the chances are slimmer than before- so looking for some success stories?

How long did it take you to get pregnant?

Also want to post this in the parenting section if allowed.

Hi, I'm 36 and it took 9 months of trying (temperature taking, ovulation kits etc).

Risks - meh, chances- fine!

Everyone says it and it's impossible, infuriating but completely true that the more you think about it the less likely it is to happen.

I'd decided in my mind that we'd need some help, booked a fertility appointment and forgot all about it and spent the winter skiing and drinking too much! I thought baby was a hangover for a month or so. :S

Wow - so young!

Just had DD (my first) at the grand old age of 41 and I'm not alone - there's lorryloads of 40+ mums on here, so 35 doesn't sound like a big deal at all.

As for me, started TTC and got pregnant after a couple of months, then early MC and then pregnant again 6 months later.

I don't think you'll have any problems - especially if you know your body and have a good understanding of your own fertility etc. As for risks, non-invasive testing has become available since you had your 3 DC so look into that if you have any concerns.

Good luck!

PS BummyMummy our DD was conceived on holiday too...

Dogsmom · 28/09/2013 22:21

My first dd is 6 months old and I'm 39, it took us 3 years to conceive her though.
I didn't have any tests so not sure what the problem was.

LittlePeaPod · 29/09/2013 02:32

Good luck Op. 35 is young. I am 37, one previous preganany, conceived within one month of trying, but mc in March, then had one period (April) post mc and found out we were pregant again in May. Our DD is due 2nd January Grin.

I am 45 years old and having my first in December.

Albiebee · 29/09/2013 07:35

I'm 35 and fell instantly pregnant after coming off the pill, first ovulation. I'm now 31 weeks. Was so surprised I didn't realise I was pregnant until 9 weeks! Blush
My sister is 3 years younger than me and was exactly the same. If you have sisters with children or can ask your Mum about family history (early menopause? DM's was bang on 50) that might give you an idea of what to expect from your own fertility.

But of course you won't know until you start.

Good Luck!

Hi I'm 36 and got pregnant within 3 months of coming off the pill. I was totally prepared that it would take at least a year but its been a nice surprise :) xx

Hi I'm 42 and 37 weeks pregnant with DC3 after 2 months of trying :)

Hope2014 · 29/09/2013 11:26

I'm 36, pg in 7 cycles (9 months owing to crazy long then short cycles). Also a holiday conception! First baby for me too -just didn't meet the right man until my 30s! Good luck x

Kelly1814 · 29/09/2013 11:53

I'm 37 now, was 36 when tried for a baby.

Had been on pill for 20 years, had a coil for one year.

Coil removed on 28th December, pregnant first time we tried, two weeks later.

We thought it would take a year, were completely shocked when got pregnant so quickly. Doctor had warned me it could take ages. What did they know!

And my two week old baby is now snuggled in my arms as I type Smile

Good luck!

YoniMitchell · 29/09/2013 12:00

I'm 36 and am pg with my first. We started ttc when I was 33, naively expecting it to hapoen immediately, however we started ivf when I was 34. Although our challenges stemmed from unexplained male infertility, I had a couple of MCs along the way, neither we're attributed to my age.

Good luck! Hope you get there soon! [soon]

FWIW, I feel fantastic and more prepared for a baby now than I did a few years ago (although there's nothing like being told you can't do something to make you want it more! Wink).

YoniMitchell · 29/09/2013 12:01

Of course [soon] should have been Smile! Who says baby brain ain't real?! Blush

kitty555 · 29/09/2013 12:52

Good luck daisyduke13 - I am 35 as well and have been TTC#1 since March. It hasn't happened yet, but I guess that's due to my various health problems (diabetic type 1, low thyroid, high BMI...). Have had different tests at GP already and have an appt at our local fertility clinic in November, but it might just happen before we go - fingers crossed! I know loads of people who were older than 35 who got pregnant and had a healthy baby so it is clearly possible. Smile

TwickyWoo · 29/09/2013 13:47

I am 35 and due with my first in December. I have no idea whether my age would have made it more difficult to conceive as we weren't trying (although weren't trying very hard not to if that makes any sense!) I've found the pregnancy good so far and didn't really think about the 'risks'... I don't feel that old - haha!

MrsPatMustard · 29/09/2013 15:14

Am 39 and due with DC1 in Jan. Read tons of medical posts saying how difficult it can be to get pregnant after 35 and, consequently, had been steeling myself for a long period of TTC but it only took 3 weeks.....

Best advice is ignore the medical sites that foresee doom and gloom and stay relaxed about it - stress is the enemy of fertility. Good luck!
