would you definitely get it with the third?
I'm considering ttc baby no. 3 but am very worried about the sickness aspect - had horrendous sickness with ds and dd - up to 5 months in both cases, all day long, couldn't bear shops or smells or the thought of food... Just wondering if it would be inescapable with the thirs pregnancy or whether there have been any fab medical discoveries in the last few years!!

I am only on pregnancy no.2 but both were completely different. First one hardly any sickness, second one 5 months of sickness, so you just never know

misdee · 26/06/2006 20:35

had really bad morning sickness with dd1+2 at the point of conception till giving birth (even was sick during labour with dd1). but with dd3 the symtoms didnt appear till i was about 8 weeks gone, but then wound up in hospital. all of mine are girls, and some people belive you are more sick with girls.

Miaou · 26/06/2006 20:36

Um, not what you want to hear but my m/s was worse with no. 3 than with the first two - started earlier and lasted longer - so yes it does happen!

(Not put me off wanting no. 4 though)

Miaou · 26/06/2006 20:37

And btw my third was a boy so misdee's theory doesn't hold much water

Hi,
Not much to add, I had awful morning sickness for 8 months with my dd, had to have a 9 week scan to check for twins, in hospital for dehydration.
Didn't find anything to help either, tried sea band wrist-thingies, ginger, accupuncture, the works.Puts me off having another, to be honest.

trinityrhino · 26/06/2006 20:59

with my first I wasn't sick at all with secondand now third, felt awfully sick all the time, couldn't cops with shops and smells, just like you

first 2 wereboth girls and hav to wait till jan to find out what this one is

I have been prescribed some anit-emetic tablets incase I really can't cope with the nausea and my 15month old

Hiya,

I thought I would input into this as I wrked on an information line for women with HG (hyperemesis gravidaryum, severe sickness) and consequently have encountered many similat women to yourself.

In some women, sickness never occurs again. These seem to be a minority, I amafraid. many like me have less worrse (IYSWIM) sickness- I did take anti emetics early on wth ds2 and ds3 though, so that was a factor. Some poor women experince more severe sickness, have only encountered this once but it can happen.

have at look at this site, as it is specifically for wmen like us. Do remember that sickness can be sometimes controlled by rest and diet.

Good luck

thanks for all your input and thanks for that site peachyclair, definitely given me things to think about!

Pruni it was, yes, whilst the lady running it was on maternity leave I had the information line in my iving room. great site isn't it? Glad it helped you.

No anti -emetics don't worj for everyone BUT most poeple will get good results with one type or anothr, but theyneed to keep trying varieties. Fisrt ones I had made me throw up more. Bucanesten, helps loads of people though. Realistically you should see an Obstetrician with experieence of HG, as many GP's never see it (something like 7 in 2000 get it, not a lot),
