Antibodies in blood

Hi there,

Would like some advice if anyone can be of assistance.
I'm 32 weeks pregnant and the results of both blood tests (booking & 28wk) show antibodies in my blood. Is this something that I should be concerned about? My midwife said (and she double checked with the hospital) that I don't require any more testing.
My concern is that although the level of antibodies is low now, there is no guarantee that the level won't rise and only further testing will show this.
I of course don't want anything to happen to my little one when he/she is born so should I request another blood test on my next antenatal appointment or am I being overly concerned about nothing?

Can anybody shed some light?

Thanks in advance!

Was it antibodies that can back in your blood type sample? If it was then it is normal and nothing to worry about. It usually just means they have to match your blood more carefully if you need a blood transfusion.

I have no idea, these results are from routine screening. I am APositive blood group so nothing to worry about with regards to negative groups (I think!) just a bit confused really. Not had the best experiences with this hospital so far so wanted to make doubly sure I should trust what they are saying.

Only if you need a blood transfusion. There are over 300 blood group antigens which are split into 30 blood group systems i.e., ABO (blood type) Rh (D ) etc. Not all of them are clinically significant (could cause a reaction if you are transfused). ABO and Rh are the most clinically significant in that you must be transfused with a match so you dont suffer a reaction. If they have found antibodies they will to an antibody ID test which will tell them what specific antibodies are present, this means if you need a transfusion they will select blood which is compatable to deter from any sort of reaction.
