Stopping clexane at 34 weeks

Hi all,
I'm currently 29 weeks and have been taking baby aspirin and low dose clexane since 7 weeks as I have a blood clotting disorder, discovered after 1 normal pregnancy and 3 early mmc.
I have been advised to stop taking both at 34 weeks but I didn't think to question why at the time as I couldn't imagine/never thought I would get to this stage again. So I was wondering if anyone knows the reasons for stopping at 34 weeks and not carrying on until 38/39/40?
From what I've read people are advised to not take any blood thinning medication on the day of surgery or if they go into labour which makes sense.
I am already counting kicks and getting nervous if she goes quiet for a little while so can imagine what I'll be like when I stop at 34 weeks!

TIA!

Speak to your doctor!

I imagine it is because it increases the chance of haemorrhage during labour. Please speak to your doctor and find out for sure even if its just to discuss your fears.

I think it's in case you have the baby, as 37 weeks is classed as full term. Definitely check with your doctor though to put your mind at rest. I stopped at 34 weeks and the hospital made sure that I started clexane again very quickly after delivery.

I have a blood clotting disorder (Factor V Leiden) and I was also advised to stop low dose aspirin at 34 weeks (only had Clexane for the first couple of weeks).

The reason why you are asked to do so is indeed as Katebakes says around the risk of haemorrhage. The nearer you get to term, the higher the chances of you going into labour spontaneously and whilst you are most likely going to have a straightforward birth, they have to plan for occasions whereby you may suddenly require an EMCS.

I remember the worries so well - they are only natural but please try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! Smile

Thanks for your replies ladies.
The Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic at St Mary's advised me to take both aspirin and clexane until 34 weeks but they discharged me into the care of my local hospital after a good scan at 10 weeks. I will contact them to ask but wasn't sure if they would help/reply so thought I'd try here first!
Thanks again.
