God-awful wind!

Since yesterday I have had the worst bloating and trapped wind case that must have been seen in pregnant-land, it horrendous!

I'm burping like a lorry driver and look well beyond my 14 weeks, to top it all I am also getting waves of sickness every now and then, probably from the excess wind. This morning I felt so bad I had to go back home from work. Pathetic.

I've had 2 cups of Fennel tea, one cup of mint-from-the-garden tea and some prunes to try and get things going, in case there's also some constipation in the mix. I honestly don't know what to do any more or how to face work tomorrow if this doesn't ease off!

Any tips or advice?

Ha I'm thinking my partner may be sleeping on the sofa if I don't stop my stink soon! I also have prunes and prune juice :/ xx

Probiotics! Made a huge difference to me.

Eggy burps? Classic tummy-bug sign. Stay off work until you feel better.

Non-foul burps, possibly indigestion. Try an ant-acid suitable for pregnancy (I popped Rennies like peanuts!).

Fennel tea is brilliant for trapped wind, but not fast-acting. You need to drink it regularly to prevent the wind rather than treat it. Ginger in any form is very helpful, and fast-acting, but avoid it until you know for certain that this is not a tummy-bug. Ginger is horrible if it comes b
ack up again.

HadALittleFaith what sort of probiotics are you taking? Or do you mean a daily Actimel?

Deffo not a tummy bug, just bad bad wind and lots of it! Sluggish system I guess, but better today :)

Prior to getting pregnant I always had activist. Then I had a total yogurt aversion when I got pregnant so I switched to Yakult. Some people say you're better off with tablets which you can get from health food shops so you don't get the extra sugar from the drinks.

HadALittleFaith · 24/09/2013 10:51

activia, not activist!

Stevie I feel your pain. I had horrific trapped wind early on which was painful but quickly gave way to seriously explosive wind. Dunno which was worse.

Think I posted on here about it before. It was so bad (and yet tuneful!) that me and DH would be lying in bed and he'd say 'sorry?' or 'did you say something?' and it would just be a long drawn out fart!!!

Still not much better at 20 weeks so will watch this thread with interest. Will definitely try fennel tea...

Yet despite farting all day I can't seem to get going on the loo! Sorry tmi I know. Eating masses of fruit and veg and cereal but may resort to prunes soon...Grin

Probiotics are about to be banned/their packaging & advertising claims banned by the ESFA - they DO NOT aid digestion. Don't waste your money! Shortly, they will not be allowed to advertise that they are useful for digestion/stomach health.

Deflatine is safe for pg, and may help if the wind is trapped (it's bloody painful if it is, so you have my sympathy).

Windeeze its the only think that has helped me I still have awful trapped wind at 36 weeks. I think I would of probably exploded by now without them! The liquid ones work much faster. Hope u feel better soon.
