Acid reflux

I realise now that I must have been suffering from GERD for about 5-8 years before I was even pregnant, I just thought it was allergies or sore throats.

But now it's SO bad. It's being treated as aggressively as it can (doctors are worried about damage to the esophagus and throat cancer) with zantax and pantoprazole. I'm also taking herbal remedies like slippery elm, papaya enzyme and chewing gum.

It's still really bad though, I can't sleep at all, can't eat anything I should be (most fruit and veg, dairy etc) and now I've got sicky bile coming up into my mouth as I talk with no warning. YUK. It feels like someone is pouring acid down my throat (well I guess it's just coming the other way instead).

I know there are far worse pregnancy complaints but I'm getting terrified to eat or drink anything and it's making me a miserable grouch.

Anyone else suffering and/or have any tips?

Poor you. I've just got the normal level of pregnancy indigestion/acid reflux and that feels bad enough.

My mum suffers from a type of hernia which leaves the valve at the top of the stomach open constantly, so it might be worth having this investigated after your pregnancy to see if you're a sufferer too. There's an operation to sort it but due to previous surgery my dm can't have this.

Wish I could offer you some suggestions to ease it but you've mentioned everything I was going to say

Thanks. :)

My midwife and doc have both said it may be a hernia. I can't WAIT to get it sorted if it is.

I'm actually glad I got pregnant so found out what it was at last.

Poor you Sad I'm taking probiotics alongside the zantac and have found that it's helped immensely. Yours sounds a lot worse than mine but it might be worth a go??

Oooh, any particular ones? Thanks.

I got the standard (cheaper) Optibac from Waitrose but there are ones in Holland and Barratt with more live bacteria which are probably better Smile

Brilliant, thanks, I'm in the US but live near a real hippy town so I'm sure I can find something good there. (God I MISS Waitrose :().

Poor you, I'm getting this a bit and was feeling quite sorry for myself but sounds like nothing compared to yours! No helpful suggestions sorry, but you have my sympathies.
