Dumb Question Time: Can sitting 'wrong' hurt baby?

The last few days when I've been driving I've felt a sort of pinching pain very close to my pubic bone, low in the left of my abdomen.

Of course, I'm worried that I'm squishing either my womb or my womb dweller!
When it happens I feel the urge to stretch the leg out to get more room in my abdomen, but of course I can't because I'm driving. My brain is going 'if there's pain in that position that means there's something wrong! What if it's the baby telling you to move!'

So...yeah. Can the slightly tilted 'v' shaped posture you adopt with your legs and body while you're driving compress things in there and potentially hurt LO?

I often feel like I'm squishing my baby! 36 weeks and a 1.5 hour commute by car (the last week of it, yay). He has been head down but ROP for ages, so if he's awake I often feel his hands moving in my groin when I'm driving. Might be what you're feeling?
I have no answer, except I'm sure it's fine. I had a growth scan last week and he didn't appear to be damaged in any way, so I'm assuming he can cope with it Smile
I do try and walk around a fair bit in the day/when I get home, or get on my knees over the gym ball.

I'm 34 weeks and have just been advised by our nct class leader that bucket seats aren't the best idea from this point on. Not that they'll hurt anything, me or bub, but that they're encourage him to roll into a breech position which obviously isn't ideal. Maybe you can feel this? How long are you driving for? She was saying long journeys (ie hours) weren't advisable. By the same token though, she said if you did have to sit in that way just make sure you sit forward all the other times. Basically deep (used to be) comfy couches are now out in my world. Good excuse for a new chair though!

Ah, I'm nowhere near that far along - week 19.
But interesting to know for later on!

Yep mustard, best to keep your hips forward I think. I do drive with my seat more upright and sitting on a wedge cushion now. Might be worth considering, Julietee?

Don't worry...sit in any way that is comfortable for you. You won't harm your baby.

From baby kicks to labour, pain for you doesn't necessarily = harm to baby, but you'd obviously want to avoid it if you can!

your baby is about 15 cm long at the moment, has plenty of space to move around in the womb if uncomfortable. You actually have to try very hard to injure a 19 week baby in the womb!! But if YOU are uncomfortable, move Smile
