Flu jab

Are any of you getting the flu jab this winter? My midwife mentioned it to me and I'm not sure what to do.

Do any of you know what you'll decide when flu jab season comes around?

Planning to ge it myself. I've had so much lurgy since DD was born that I think it's more likely I'll get flu this winter than before DD. Also if the family does go down with it perhaps one of us will be healthy enough to cope with the baby and toddler!
DC2 is due at the end of November.

I think I probably will. I chatted to midwife about it & she told me that although the flu jab changes every year here as flu changes, they use the same jab in Australia in their flu season which is our summer - so if there were any problems with it - the Australians should discover them first. I don't fancy being heavily pregnant & having flu! Do chat to your midwife if you've got questions.

Pregnant women are more susceptible to flu and also have a higher risk of complications from flu. The vaccine is considered low risk (lots of published data).

I had the flu in early pregnancy and it was awful--I had a fever that was hard to bring down and until my dating scan was honestly worried that it had affected my baby (fever in early pregnancy has been associated with neural tube defects). I imagine flu in late pregnancy would be pretty rotten.

I was all set to have it, as I'm very pro vaccinations, but my surgery is only offering it from 10/10/13, and I'm due on the 16th! I think it's a live vaccine, so I don't want to be under the weather and going into labour...

Why wouldn't you have it? It protects you and also gives some immunity to the baby once it's born.

Anything - similar to you (but not as bad), I rang to book in for it today, first available appointment is 15/10, baby is due 28/10. Bump has dropped already so am hoping I've not had him/her early by then! Good luck to you, hope you are ok for labour :)

42 - I saw a different midwife at my last appointment and she wasn't sure if I'm be eligible if the baby had come by then. Argh!

My surgery has not got them in yet unfortunately.
