Just wondering it anyone has any remedies for this? I thought I suffered in the past but it now wakes me up and gaviscon gives relief for a whole 10 minutes! 33 weeks and praying it doesn't get any worse as if it does my insides will just burn away!

if you want to try a medical approach ask your dr to prescribe omeprazole tablets. I had horrendous heartburn, but one tablet a day and I don't get it at all any more!!

Thank you! Seeing my doctor today so hopefully he'll prescribe me something, never realised heartburn could last for hours on end.

Yes, omeprazole! I always thought that heartburn was something you fixed with a glass of milk or gaviscon. I had no idea the levels it could reach until this pregnancy.. it's been horrendous since 7 weeks on a 24/7 basis. Omeprazole fixes 95% of it, so unless I eat something triggering like curry it's just not an issue any more.

Omeprazole is a miracle!

CrispyFB · 20/09/2013 12:03

If there was something like Omeprazole for nausea/morning sickness, they would make billions of pounds and a lot of women very happy indeed! Heartburn is one of the few pregnancy "conditions" that can normally be mostly cured with medication.

My doctor has given me a great big bottle of Gaviscon. It is brilliant!

I seem to have got rid of pretty horrific heartburn (which was affecting even my ability to drink water) with no meds by de-acidifying my body. Apart from eating foods that are naturally alkaline and cutting out all fizzy drinks (with sugar OR sweetners), I eat small meals five times a day and add a little bicarbonate of soda to my drinking water (1 teaspoon per 5 litres); it might taste a little salty to those who aren't fans of Vichy Catalan mineral water, but my god, it's worth it. Oh, and I have a dessert spoon of cloudy apple cider vinegar dissolved in a small glass of water before eating lunch and dinner. The latter sounds counter-intuitive, but aparently it aids digestive acids, and it certainly seems to work.

I used to take bicarb and cider vinegar to relieve the symptoms of cystitis, and since I was recently treated for a urine infection which I hadn't even noticed, I'm hoping this low acid diet will also help in that area, as I don't want to take more antibiotics.

I’m going to be another vote for omeprazole - been taking it since first trimester and if I don’t, have heartburn so bad I vomit. Gaviscon barely touched the sides for me.
