ABSOLUTELY GAGGING FOR A CURRY AND HAVE BEEN AVOIDING THEM RECENTLY IN CASE THEY BRING ON LABOUR TOO EARLY NOW I AM 38+2 WEEKS PREGNANT - DO YOU THINK I COULD RISK HAVING ONE TONIGHT?

Yes.

zippitippitoes · 23/06/2006 17:46

I'm sure i ate curry all the time when pregnant

BettySpaghetti · 23/06/2006 17:46

I ate curries all the way through both my pregnancies without any ill effects. I think you'll be safe

(PS how did you manage to resist til now?!)

foxinsocks · 23/06/2006 17:47

yes, I ate them throughout aswell (in fact I craved them)

squarer · 23/06/2006 17:47

erm, most definitely. It's an old wives tale as far as I am concerned! Put it like this - I ate steaming hot curries from 40 weeks onwards and eventually gave birth at 42+2 after having my waters broken.

Elibean · 23/06/2006 17:49

Craving them, eating them, all started in fact with reading a MN thread with Poppadom's name on it

16 weeks and not a braxton hicks in sight!

cupcakes · 23/06/2006 17:50

mmmm... curry...

squarer · 23/06/2006 17:51

Oh yes, and I did eat them all the way through too. Sounds like you have up until worrying too much (don't we all! )
When you are ready you are ready - I'm a non-believer as far as these bringing on pregnancy things is concerned.

worryinone · 23/06/2006 17:53

Thanks guys - going to hunt out the menu right now! DH will be made up! xx

Hellfire....salmon for supper, horribly healthy. WANT CURRY NOW!

BettySpaghetti · 23/06/2006 17:54

foxinsocks -you just reminded me about my craving for Bombay Potato when I was pregnant with DD -used to eat them lunchtimes at work and stink the office out (even got a complaint about it!)

(just to clarify that it was the food and not the "after-effects" that created the smell IYSWIM )

squarer · 24/06/2006 19:40

Where's worryinone? I was expecting the low down on her curry.
Perhaps she went into labour

beansontoast · 24/06/2006 19:53

mmmmmm...curry...have two

foxinsocks · 24/06/2006 20:24

lol perhaps she had a mega hot vindaloo and did go into labour!

Betty, I must say that is pretty hardcore having curry for lunch . I craved sag bhaji (the curried spinach) and chicken tikka (not with the sauce) or chicken balti. I convinced myself it was good for the baby

Both mine adore curry and lamb curry was their favourite food when they were babies!

LilacWine · 24/06/2006 20:27

i had a curry the night before i went into full-on labour with DS, after two days of having mild contractions.

BettySpaghetti · 24/06/2006 20:28

Funnily enough foxinsocks I've just had a lovely curry -mushroom and saag aloo balti.

My two liked the baby/toddler curries that I made but are not too keen on the "proper" ones unfortunately.

foxinsocks · 24/06/2006 20:29

we all told her to have a curry aswell !

Betty, how old are they? There's probably still time to convert them

BettySpaghetti · 24/06/2006 20:33

DD is 6 and DS (probably the least fussy) is nearly 2.

DD will eat korma but if we get a takeaway thats not a dish we would get -only time I ever ate kormas/very mild curries was when I was breastfeeding DD as anything stronger seemed to have a knock-on effect with her.

Over the years DP (the chief cook in the family) has made my food slightly hotter and spicier and has built up my tolerance so I'm sure, in time , we can do that to the children

foxinsocks · 24/06/2006 20:37

yes I think that's the way to do it - sneak the spice in and before you know it, they'll be begging you to take them out for a curry on a Friday night!

BettySpaghetti · 24/06/2006 20:44

Trouble is, if they start to really like it we'll no longer be able to have our weekend takeaway and bottle of wine in peace after they've gone to bed -our "treat of the week"

pickle100 · 26/06/2006 09:53

Ate several vindaloos during pregnancy and esp. when 14 days overdue and absolutely nothing happened (unfortunately) so go ahead and enjoy !!

Serioiusly, I was told that the problem is if the curry gives you a bad stomach upset then the spasms can start off contractions. So if you regularly eat curry with no problems then not to worry. If you usually get a bad upset tummy the next day then avoid.

shhhh · 26/06/2006 10:04

whats happened to worryinone...???? should it now be worryinoneplusone..? LOL..????
