Any good ideas? I'm being sick every time I eat today, no matter how little/often/ginger-filled the food. It's making me miserable, so all suggestions welcome.

In my 1st two pregnancies i felt awful and was vomiting everyday until around 20weeks, this is my 3rd pregnancy and i think ive only vomited twice. The cure for my morning sickness? Avoiding milk and dairy products.

I believe i have lactose intolerence as do a whopping 70% of the worlds population so if you are suffering from bad morning sickness, try going dairy free for a couple of weeks (but make sure youre getting a good supply of calcium from other sources) and see how it makes you feel. It completely changed the 1st trimester for me and it means ive actually enjoyed this pregnancy.

I used to keep a packet of hob nobs by the bed and had to eat something before I even thought of getting up. Although I was only nauseous 24 hours a day rather than actually being sick. Oh and lots of starchy carbs, and eating little and often.

salt and vinegar crisps. Toast. Bacon and mushrooms. The odd swig of milk.

Uggh. Sitting here also suffering with all day morning sickness. It's just grim isn't it. I also put on a stone last time, as despite being poorly I was just eating shed loads of crap as it was the only thing that was making me feel better (cookies etc) Can't afford to put on a random stone this time, still haven't lost it!

Promethazine.

I had HG, and my GP gave me a prescription at 7 weeks pregnant when I went to see him having been sick every 20 minutes for the previous 24 hours. Apparently the sooner you start the meds and stop the throwing up, the less severe it is likely to be.

I still felt sick all the time, and they only food I could contemplate was Granny Smith apples - no other variety. I ate them and nothing else for about 3 months.

If I was late with the promethazine I would be throwing up like mad. Finally stopped at 29 weeks.

You can get promethazine over the counter but you have to lie and say it's for your travel sick husband as they won't give it to pregnant women without an Rx. However it is very safe in pregnancy - even in the early stages.

I just interviewed a World Expert on this and he said ginger was bog-all use too Grin His main recommendation was to rest as and when you can, and do a diary to work out if there's a window when you can get something like flat coke into you. And yes, you can get some forms of meds...

Fizzy water - it was a life saver. I also liked wotsits, plain doritos and occasional digestive biscuits x

Sparkling water - its was so good. Then wotsits, Doritos and digestives were foods I didn't eat a lot of but I stomached fairly well. Good luck - hope it passes soon.

This is going to sound weird as it's so far off what everyone else seems to find useful but quiche used to stop the nausea for a bit, when I would eat more quiche... Something about that combination of fat, protein and carbs must have been just right. I used to eat one with broccoli in so got some veg down me too.

Nothing. There's nothing. There wasn't anything through the 20 weeks of hell last time round and there isn't anything this time 7 weeks in.

If I get told to eat crackers or try ginger beer one more time I'm going to vomit on the person who does it.

  1. Eat

  1. Then eat some more.

  1. Keep on eating

  1. Then you won't know what you are beign sick from.

(Facecious, but my bitter experience)

What workedish for me -

  1. Sour stuff. Home-made cranberry juice and lime lollies were good. I kept a large bottle of water with lemon juice in the fridge for me to sip on. Tonic water with lime was nice too. Also, when desperate, I would suck on a haribo tangfastic Blush

  2. Getting loads of sleep, I needed about 9 hours a night and then I didn't feel quite as bad. Also the occasional nap when I got in from work.]

  3. Keeping hydrated. See post about all the drinks above ^

  4. If you still can't keep anything down, go and see your GP. People are Hmm about pregnancy sickness because it's wimmins stuff and we're clearly just pathetic, when in fact HG is horrific and no man would ever put up constant nausea and vomiting without treatment for more than a day.

hamncheese would you take meds? Or does that not work for you either?

In some other countries (e.g. US and Canada) women are prescribed meds for morning sickness as a matter of course, there's none of this 'put on a brave face' attitude - ScrambledSmegs is completely right.

I think small regular snacks help as your blood sugar doesn't drop as low
sorry you have it badly though, I had it with two of mine, it's miserable

bleeeeee.
10 weeks pregnant and my nausea has gone stupid.
been off work laying down for 3 days.
managing tuc crackers and ginger beer or cordial.
Dh is keeping a steady supply of small meals coming my way. Soup, toast, scrambled eggs that sort of thing. had a banana last night before bed and it was the best banana i've ever tasted.

feels like i'm on a boat. like a bad hangover, I'm sure i'd feel better if i did actually throw up.

smile.

smiling reduces the gagging reflex.
after 6 kids that is all I have.
the other solution is to be sick. you'll feel better temporarily

i was sick every day for 7 months in all of my pregnancies.....never had full on HG though thankfully and echo the poster that said don't accept it as normal!

PG 1 DH had to bring me a bowl of rice crispies in bed every morning within about 2 mins of waking, thereafter my body was a temple
PG 2 mainly french fries and monster munch, strong flavoured salty carbs, pear drops as coping strategies.
PG 3 just became resigned to it

if you can't keep down water you need medical help

go to chemist and buy some ketostix - for diabetics/pg women

you pee on them and judge your ketone level

if your ketones are 3 or higher you need to call the emergency doctor

marzipan had some last time that made a tiny difference but not enough to really help. This time given metoclopramide it made me all woozy and confused. Urgh, I'm just in a negative place because no one cares about morning sickness, especially people who don't get it. Oh and midwives who you would think would know and care, are all "oh your managing to drink? You're fine! Its making you feel down? Just hormones" thanks. Thanks a lot you negligent cowbag grrrrr

hamncheese :( Tbh I've found the (male) GPs SO much more helpful and supportive than the midwives. I don't blame you feeling negative, I have been in the same place for 90% of this pregnancy I think.

I'm on ondansatron. prescribed only by consultants. it is the ONLY thing that helps me keep food/ water down. I had a mother and father of a game to get it prescribed.
If you want to get your medical professional in a spin make sure you request it Grin

I'm organising an independent midwife currently, so despairing at the nhs care I get. Sigh. I got pnd/pna last time round from the lack of support. I'm probably a special case though!
