ive come down hard with the flu (2 weeks before my flu jab ironically). anyone know if the virus can get through the placenta or not?

im abit worried too about any complications it could cause. i caught pneumonia in my right lung in my last pregnancy which i was told was caused by the flu i had then... i was hospitalized for 2 weeks that time Blush

also can i take a nurofen (ibuprofen), cos paracetamol aint quite doing it for me atm. im 33 +4 x

Dont know if it crosses placenta/risk to baby but i'm pretty sure ibuprofen is a big no no during pregnancy. I think codiene is safe, prob best to call your midwife to check what pain relief you can take.

Otherwise hot lemon & honey drinks, hot steamy bath and lots of rest.

i was always told it's paracetamol not ibuprofen in pregnancy

i have the flu here too - panadol, lots of water with lemon, fresh air if possible as central heating can make it worse and rest rest rest. it will pass, hope you feel better soon x

I had flu in the first trimester, definitely no ibuprofen but do keep your temp down using paracetamol (I was told that the max adult dose is fine), and get heaps of rest and fluids in you.
The virus can't cross the placenta, but you need to make sure you look after yourself to avoid any complications like a respiratory infection. Hope you feel better soon, it's so grotty.

if it's really bad you can go to doctor. i'm20 weeks now and have bronchitis. i'm on antibiotics now that is safe to use during pregnancy. good luck! hope you get better soon

Taken from NHS website:

If you think you have flu in pregnancy

"Talk to your doctor as soon as possible. If you do have flu, there's a prescribed medicine you can take that might help, or reduce your risk of complications, but it needs to be taken very soon after symptoms appear."
