Painful Braxton Hicks at 15wks! Should I be worried??

Hi all,

I have been having braxton hicks since Friday night. But today they seem to have gotten worse! They are actualyl painful. They don't feel like labour pains, but should they really be this strong so early on???

I have spoken to a midwife and she told me to take some paracetamol and relax. And if they get any worse, or I start to bleed to phone the emergency docs.

Anyone else felt them this strong at only 15wks?

I have the same question, really, only I'm 23 weeks and I get very painful cramps/seem to be b-hicks sometimes. They are worse when I'm tired or dehydrated or stressed (am often stressed when dealing with my older children!). I try not to worry because it's been like this for months (right from the start of the pregnancy) and nothing bad seems to have happened, yet. I thought maybe because this is my 3rd pregnancy, or because I have supposedly low placenta, or maybe because I'm extremely emotional (hormonal?) this time?

Oh -- seems like my pains are worse when the baby is very active. I suppose that isn't good, either.

Cavy - I remember getting them at around 16 wks with ds, but I was only aware of them rather than them being uncomfortable. I've never felt they were strong enough to warrant taking a painkiller for..... until now. Even my lower back hurts!

I'm so worried that this is the start of a miscarriage, I've no reason to think it is..... just worrying myself silly here.

M2T of course you're worried, it's natural to worry about these things. Hope it's all ok xx

Perfectly natural to be worried but I'm sure you're fine. Glad you've spoken to the midwife and I agree with her about the rest. I haven't had them quite as painful as that but I've had a few which have taken the wind out of my sails a bit and almost every time I's been overdoing things somewhat.

Are you able to put your feet up for at least the rest of the day and have a glass of wine to help unwind? Easier said than done when you're worried, I know!

I hope you feel better very soon.

more hugs

"I's" = "I'd" - sorry!

If pains carry on M2T it could be the start of a urine infection. Best to get a sample sent off to be sure,

M2T · 16/02/2004 09:33

Thanks folks - Feeling better today.
Mears - You may be right, that's what I thought yesterday so I'm trying to drink lots of water to flush my system out. I'm quite prone to them anyway. I have an antenatal appointment on Wednesday so I'll be taking a sample along to that.

Only just seen this. Hope you're ok M2T!!! Any better this afternoon??

M2T · 16/02/2004 13:34

Hi Quacks - Strangely enough I haven't noticed any today! Now I'm wondering if that's good or bad!!

This is definitely my last child coz I just can't deal with all the worry and anxiety during pregnancy!
