Hi, I'm 35+5 and just realised I haven't had this injection yet. Do they do it at the 36 week appointment or do you have to book it separately? I would have thought that I would be sent an appointment. I only know about it because I read a lot of things about pregnancy but there are a lot of people who read nothing so wouldn't know unless told by a midwife. What do you think? x

Midwife mentioned it but I had to make an appointment to get it myself at my GP's surgery; was just the practice nurse who did it. Phone and ask x

Threetofour · 10/09/2013 22:55

I had to book mine separately with the GP and just had it at 35 weeks

Kittyb78 · 10/09/2013 23:13

Yup I went to the GP too, the nurse did it for me. One tip - get it in the arm you DON'T sleep on... I had mine last Thursday and it still feels as if someone has thumped me in the arm!

LouiseD29 · 11/09/2013 00:12

I had to request it be given during one of my routine appointments.

Rollermum · 11/09/2013 06:51

I had to request and had it as late as you can - 38 weeks.

I'm going to ring now. Tell me about it kittyb, I had the jab a few years ago for a holiday, it's because it's got tetanus in it makes your arm swollen, hot and itchy for about a week! That's why I've put it off until now! My ds was born a 38 weeks so better get it soon in case this one's early too! x

I got mine yesterday at 28+3 and I totally wish I had read this then! Kept waking up from rolling on my arm!

Threetofour · 11/09/2013 14:54

Agreed the pain in my arm was awful!

MummyJetsetter · 11/09/2013 15:13

I've booked for Friday morning. I'm dreading it, I swap sides loads of times in the night because I get a numb hip after a while so I'm going to be uncomfortable for a week! I've slept great so far and this is going to set me back right near the end! x

I've just booked my appointment for it at 28 weeks (2 weeks time) Thanks for the advice... just got to work out which arm I sleep on the least now :S

candr · 11/09/2013 21:19

Had it at 28 weeks and def agree with getting it on right arm as should be sleeping on left side apparently. Jab not painful but arm sore for 2 days.

HorryIsUpduffed · 11/09/2013 22:54

Agree about painful arm - damn! It was sore to the touch for nearly a week.

I had to book mine at the GP but they keep stocks in.

I was given the preschool booster because they can't get whooping cough separately, apparently. So now I know my tetanus is up to date too!

MummyJetsetter · 12/09/2013 09:04

Yeah tetanus is the bugger that does your arm in! My ds had his booster a couple of months ago and his arm went twice the size and was really hot and itchy, only bothered him when trying to get to sleep really so I used hydrocortisone which helped the itching so he could fall asleep! Good to know we're up to date with it though I guess! x

Had it this morning, wasn't bad at first, very gradually it's got more and more achey and now my shoulder muscle is starting to harden and it hurts to move my arm so I recon by the morning I'm going to have the right shoulder of a body builder! Hope it doesn't last long! x
