breech and 'anterior upper ' placenta at 35 weeks

Hi there

Im 35 weeks and had a routine appointment with midwife yesterday. She expressed concern at the size and said she would only have put baby at 28 weeks and sent me off for a scan yesterday afternoon.

The scan showed that baby is around 4lbs 13 oz - which I beliece is small but not alarmingly so?

THe scan also showed that baby is breech currently and my placenta was marked as 'anterior upper'. I thought that both of these things would be worthy of note at 35 weeks but midwife did not seem concerned?

Anyone any experience to share?
thanks

Your midwife sounds a bit scaremonger-y to me.

I was always told that scans are notoriously inaccurate at predicting baby's weight. 4lb 13 doesn't sound alarming at 35 weeks!
Neither does a breech presentation, there's still loads of time for turning.

I had a stubborn breech baby turned at 38 weeks (and an anterior placenta) but most babes flip on their own, especially ones on the smaller side apparently, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

thanks poppetty. she definitley scared me about the size thing - but looking at the scan notes the babys weight is plotted at 14th percentile which is small but im not alarmed by that.

i guess it was more the presentation and placenta that surprised me - she was not concerned by that, I was! i guess because i was hoping that at 35 weeks baby might be settling down into position , but looks like shes happy to roll around for a while longer.

erm... I was told that baby gains a lb a week after 36 weeks. How big does the MW want your baby to be?? back in the day, old gimmer 6-8 lbs was a good weight!
I dont think the placental position is an issue unless its anywhere near your cervix, and bsbies can turn at any piont. Ive had one head engaged from 36 weeks and another who was breech until very late. Im a total hypocrite, but try not to worry. x
