Washing machine smell

I'm having real issues with our washing machine, I can smell an awful smell from it and any clothes that come out of it, so much so that I'm heaving and being sick. I can smell it from upstairs as soon as the machine is opened at the other side of the house downstairs so I know it isn't in my head as OH likes to make out! But, nobody else can smell a thing! There's been a cleaner wash put through it, vinegar and I've got bleach in it now but nothing is working! Could it be my nose has just taken issue with the smell of clothes washing in general? Hmm Right now I'm having to hide in the bedroom with the door shut and miss X Factor!

I had that with my last machine. I did the clean cycles, put vinegar, bi-carb etc in it, also ran a bleach cycle and it still smelt of soggy biscuits.
I bought a new machine and when we unplugged the old one, I nearly threw up when I looked down the hose. Nothing would have shifted that!

I now, after every wash, dry the drum and around and inside the door seal, once a week take out the drawer and scrub it and pour a jug of hot water in the drawer space and once a month do an empty spin on 90 degrees. Hope that keeps it fresher for longer

I had this and on the advice of washing machine repair guy, poured dishwasher cleaner into the drum and put it on the hottest cycle. It did work and I do it periodically now to keep it stink free.

Will try dishwater cleaner then, thanks! Can't afford a new machine unfortunately Hmm

The smell thing when you're pregnant is awful isn't it?

Re the washing machine, take the drawer out and scrub it. Soak in bleach if it needs it. Clean the drawer cavity too.

Do you have a filter? Sometimes they are hidden in the panel at the bottom. It's where hair and sock fluff gather. Clean it. (Check the manual, or online to find out where it is)

De scale the machine, calgone or similar.

Put through a boil wash a couple of times.

Leave the door open as much as possible.

Hope it sorts!

Thank you, I didn't even know they had filters, I'm so clueless! Will try everything tomorrow Smile

Also check if your machine drains in under the sink that the sink isn't back washing into it. Ours had been plumbed in wrong so sink water could wash back into the machine, stank no matter what we did until we fixed the hose position - it needs to come in from higher than where it enters the sink drain, that way nothin can flow back.

DoItTooJulia · 08/09/2013 22:01

Maybe not a job for you, cleaning the filter. They can be rank!

Since my new machine was installed, my sink drain has been stinking........this is connected right? I should get it re-done?
