Rubella Immunity

Just had letter from Drs this morning, apparently I don't have immunity to rubella so will need MMR once baby is born. But this is pregnancy number three and was immune in the previous too. Is it really possible to lose immunity?

Hmm how strange, I really wouldn't have thought so, I was immune in my first and am in this one as well. Maybe u could ask to be re tested?

I was immune in my first pregnancy (although now I'm told it was borderline) but aren't anymore, according to doc. I assume it's because my last booster was so long ago, but I wish I had known about it before. I've been told to stay away from all non-vaccinated babies/children until 20 weeks, which, to be honest, is really rather impractical. Watching with interest in case anyone has any information about it.

Thank you ladies. Think I will go to the midwives drop on clinic n Tuesday and see what they say. Like you BabyLaberinth with two other DC it's near impossible to ensure I am staying away from non-vaccinated children, I would have no idea if the children at nursery and school have been vaccinated or not!

I found this out during induction/labour. Apparently some people just don't respond to jabs or lose immunity, I can't remember what I was told tbh! Had no idea beforehand though so didn't know to avoid anyone Blush

You do loose immunity quicker with vaccines.

I had no immunity to Rubella with all 3 PG. I did have the vaccine as a child. I refused a vaccine after each baby.

It is a very personal thing.

For me, I had a cousin who had a rubella vaccine at 16 and after developing Rubella from the actual vaccine she was left paralysed and blind. I looked into vaccines in depth (not google Smile) and have since decided against them.

It is a bit of a worry when you are PG but you have to put it into perspective. The chances of you actually catching it at the point in your PG which would be dangerous is very slim.

If its necessary, you don't have to have mmr, which is the three in one, you can have rubella separately but would need to pay for it privately. My son had the measles vaccine separately as I didn't want him to have the three in one for personal reasons. I had the rubella vac. at 15 yrs of age when they were doing it in the schools, not sure how it may affect you just wanted to stress you don't have to have anything your not comfortable with.
