The University Hospital Coventry or Warwick??

This is my first pregnancy and I was wondering which hospital would be the best. I've heard positive and truly negative reports about both. On the plus side the new Lucina birth centre has opened on the labour ward at Coventry. We are pretty rural where we live and they are both at least 30 minutes away.
Any thoughts please?
I'm almost sure I want a natural birth if I'm low risk and everything else is fine.

I'm local to these and have heard mixed reviews on both to be honest. I've heard a few negative comments about warwick lately, maybe you could go and look round them both-I'm sure you can do that?!!

Had my four at coventry, no 5 will be born their too :) I have nothing but praise for them really, they may be a tad understaffed but isn't everywhere? Good luck

Equally, had both mine at Warwick and was very well treated.

I'm having mine at UHCW Smile

I think it's a lovely hospital - I am biased though as I used to work there Smile

When are you due mama1979 ? I have a feeling we are due about the same time?

PinkApple86 · 05/09/2013 20:18

I'm having my baby at George Eliot Nuneaton (first) and people tell me it is older but very friendly (told by someone who had a baby there and one in Cov). Depends where you are located.

I work with a lot of new mums and 90% of them will have had their baby at GEH. When we talk about the labour/birth they usually all speak very highly of the care they received. My sister had both her babies at the GEH and said it had been absolutely fine both times round - in fact, she said she had enjoyed her 2nd labour Hmm

In live near both as well and we have gone for UHCW in the end. Didn't decide straight away and we have been allocated to Warwick so far (I'm 14 weeks) - so have had booking appt and first scan there.

Decided on Coventry due to the new birth centre - there are plenty of birthing pools which is what I'd like ideally - I think warwick only has 1 so chances of being able to use one are obviously much lower. Also put off by the fact that you can't have a look around the labor ward facilities.

Warwick seemed ok from our limited experience - although staff a little unfriendly and not too helpful. But that's a very limited experience! Probably best to think about what you want from a hospital (small and friendly or larger with more facilities?) Good luck!

Some of us could be next door bed neighbours on the ward at this rate grin]

Have had 3 babies at Cov (+1 home birth), although looking back my first (induced) it didn't feel so 'friendly' but i was unlucky and got an old battleaxe mw during induction and i was quite young and scared. On labour ward they were lovely.

My other 2 were after the new hospital built and were both positive. Mws were brilliant when i turned up inpanic on new years eve bleeding and terrified. Very reassuring and just about managed to catch dd2 3 hours later!

Good luck

I am due May, and although closer to Warwick, a few recent negative reports have put me off. I think I'm preferring the Lucina birth centre at Coventry which is next to the main labour ward in case of emergencies.
Thank you for all of the replies.
Xx
