Sleep on back in late pregnancy!

I keep waking in the night to go to the loo and I'm on my back. I sleep with a pillow under my bump, in between my legs and I have quite a big pillow behind me so I can't roll, but I somehow managed to turn. Oh has tried cuddling right up to me to stop me rolling which doesn't work, and the worst bit is it feels soooo damn good!!!!!

I really do try to avoid sleeping on my back, but how bad is it for me/baby if I do?

I've never slept on my back, that is until I got pregnant! Now it's the only position I can get comfy in! But then again only sleeping 2-3hrs a night. I've just bought a brand new pillow so my head slightly elevated. I think it's fine as long as you move if pressure starts to get too much. I've mentioned it to midwives and they aren't concerned!

Sleep whatever way makes you comfortable! It's only an issue if you feel faint etcl

I slept on my back all the time during pregnancy. When bump started getting bigger i propped myself up on a pillow mountain (as dh called it) so i wasn't completely flat, but continued to sleep on my back as i found sleeping on my side very uncomfortable.

The risk of sleeping flat on your back is that you will restrict the blood flow to your lower body by baby pressing on artery but if you keep your upper body raised you'll be fine

This keeps happening to me too as I was always a back sleeper and finding it painful in my hips when I sleep on my side (I'm 38 weeks tomorrow) My midwife said don't worry too much but try to keep propped up a bit. I think another risk is developing piles due to the weight of the baby. Don't get up too quick as I did and my spine crunched like at the chiropractors ooh yuck.

So I don't have to worry then. I don't mind sleeping on my side, but when I am on my back it feels so nice. I know if I've been on it for too long too because I can't sit/lay on bum for too long, now that hurts!

I always used to wake up on my back but I would have painful trapped wind all the next day. I've managed to stop doing it now thankfully! I don't think there's any harm as long as it feels comfy for you and it's not causing dead legs or anything. x

I use a pillow mountain too Smile Tbh it really hurts to sleep on my side all night and it's a bit of light relief to be sitting up asleep. It is a bit like doing a night flight EVERY night tho

Well last night I decided to move the pillow from behind my back and use that in between my legs instead (its thicker then the one i was using). I figured, since I end up on my back anyway I'm not going to put any support there, and believe it or not I didn't once end up on my back! I was acutally really comfy, and if it wasn't for the dog having a barking fit at stupid Oclock in the morning I prob would have had a full nights kip!
