Hi all

I am 9 weeks pregnant through ivf, and had 7 week scan 2 weeks ago and discovered we are having identical twins.
They share the same amniotic sac and there was no membrane on the last scan.
I have another scan on Friday. I am hoping that they find a dividing membrane.
I have made the mistake of googling and I am so worried by all the horror stories.
There seems to be little online sport for UK mums, do just wondering if anyone else put there has the same at the moment and maybe we can talk.
Good luck everyone x

Hi, I'm not in quite your situation, but didn't want to leave your post unanswered.

I'm 25 +4 with monochorionic-diamniotic twins, so mine share a placenta but have separate sacs. We had a big scare a month or so ago when ours developed TTTS, but we had laser surgery and now they're doing great.

I just wanted to reassure you that although it feels very scary to begin with, for every terrifying statistic that you read, there is a good news story too.

I'm sure someone will come in with more help, but I'm more than happy to chat anyway if you'd like to. Keep your chin up, step away from Google and cherish the fact that you've got TWO BABIES!

Hi, again I am not in your situation as am 27+5 with non ID twins. However, DP's cousins daughter has monoamniotic twin boys who are now 3 and utterly gorgeous! She did have them early (can't remember how early) as one was not growing as quickly but they were only in special care for a couple of weeks and then went home Grin So as scary as it is it's not always bad news. The worst thing you can do is Google I think, more scare stories than anything else I would have thought. Have you been told about TAMBA (Twin and Multiple Birth Association) I'm sure you will find a lot of support and advice there.

It may also be worth posting in the Multiple Birth section on here (under being a parent)

I hope you get the advice you are looking for.

And congratulations on your twin pregnancy Grin

Thanks for replying ladies.
I have looked on the tamba site but there isn't much info about mono amniotic twins.

If you join TAMBA (£2.25 a month) then you can access the discussion board and get more info. You have to pay for some of the info as it is a charity.

Thanks Frany, I will look onto this.

Congratulations Franchini :)

MCMA twins are quite rare, however, I know two twin mothers that have happy and healthy (MCMA) babies. One delivered at 32 weeks and the other at 31 weeks.

9 weeks is very early to see a dividing line and the chances of seeing that line more clearly at 12 weeks is high. There have been two mums on here recently with the same concerns as you and both ended up with MCDA twins and not MCMA as originally seen on early scans.

Phoning Tamba may be a good idea if you are concerned.

Good luck :)

I have MoMo boys - they shared sac and placenta. Had a healthy pregnancy. No complications and were born at 37 weeks naturally and vaginally.

I was constantly monitored and as there were no signs of cord compressions/entanglement they delayed my C-Section date a week to 37+5. Long story short I went into active labour 2 days prior and had the urge to push while being prepared for my c-section so I had no choice. It was scary but had loads of people on standby.

C-sections for Mo twins is always the choice as vaginal birth is too risky i.e birthing one twin can pull the placenta which can be dangerous for you and the twin still inside. And most C-Sections are done around the 34-36 week with Mo twins.

My boys turn 1 on 12th Sept and are doing great!

If you have any questions or someone to talk to just PM me.

How was the scan Franchini? Hope you're doing ok!

Franchini · 07/09/2013 23:28

Scan went well. I am so relieved as they are in separate sacs. Still going to be high risk but not as high risk. Phew!
