Hiccups?

I read somewhere that if your baby has hiccups for 20 minutes or more that you should contact a midwife because it could indicate a cord accident. Is this true? I'm such a worrier Confused

How do you know if your baby has hiccups? Couldn't it just be moving around a bit? (genuine question, not being sarcastic!) Smile [cuppa]

Don't know about anyone else but I can tell when he has hiccups. It's wee jumpy movements in the same place repeatedly. It's just like hiccups... But in your belly. I also know for sure because I've been scanned while he had them so I definitely know what it feels like :)

My DS1 had hiccups all the time while I was carrying him and he's a healthy 5yo now. I never heard about it being an indicator of a cord accident but if you're worried, mention it to your MW.

I've never heard of that either, I'm 30 weeks and can feel that my baby has them just now......they get annoying at times lol

Ds had hiccups ALL the time in utero. It felt like a frog jumping about inside me. Never heard the 20 min thing though.

I've had 6 kids and they all hiccuped in utero. some more than others.

I never heard or read or been told to contact the midwife for that.
and none of our kids had any cord problems.

that doesn't mean that what you heard OP is untrue, but If it's a valid and important piece of info I find it odd that I have never came across this in the last 12 years - at least once I should have, shouldn't I?

we also have 18 nephews & nieces and know literally hundreds of people with kids and honestly I'm sure it would've come up.

I wouldn't worry about it.Smile

DS was a great hiccuper in the womb and still is at 11 weeks. Maybe it's just a developmental stage?
