Is an 'all out front' bump always a boy?

I'm 20 weeks and am already being told by loads of people that it must be a boy because my bump is all out the front and you can't tell I'm pg from behind. We did not want to know at scan, but now feel like we are being told the sex. Surely the way I'm carrying the baby is due to my build and not the baby's sex?
Has anyone had an 'out the front' bump that was a girl? I'd love to hear your experiences, as I don't want to feel like I definitely know what this baby is.

I looked 4 months pg when full term and I'm size 10. Didn't get out of size 12 clothes. Midwife convinced baby was going to be small. DS was 8lbs and somehow just carried flat. Friend of mine just had boy 6lbs and was out front and huge.

There is a 50 50 chance - these old wives tales are for your entertainment only!

jollyfolly · 19/06/2006 21:14

i was all up front with a boy.... but my friend (pregnant at the same time) carried all round and she also had a boy... guess it means nothing really how you carry

Cod · 19/06/2006 21:19

no
tis lal bollox

spacecadet · 19/06/2006 21:21

i was all the front with all mine..and they werent all boys..another old wives tail.

Cod · 19/06/2006 21:21

tale even?

lunavix · 19/06/2006 21:22

I was fat all over with ds (I put on around 5 stone, which was over half of what I weighed to start with.) I swelled like a balloon and you could see me clearly from every angle! Even before that though, I was clearly pregnant from behind (when the hips morphed into childbearing hips I guess!)

I'm 32 weeks pg with number 2, and you can't tell from behind (and incidentally, no swelling, no huge ass, nothing.)

I'll let you know how it turns out, but obviously ds was already contrary to the myth, plus if this is a dd then dd will be contrary to it as well, and if this is a ds then ds2 will be the exact opposite of ds1... what I'm trying to say is it's a load of arse :)

mandymac · 19/06/2006 21:22

Everyone said I was having a boy, as I carried to the front and didn't really look pregnant from behind (unless my enlarged bum counts Grin). I was unconvinced and sure enough DD arrived just under a year ago. I just used to say to people 'well you've got a 50% chance of being right' and not take it seriously.

pol26 · 19/06/2006 21:25

Everyone said DD was a boy because I had a huge front bump... but obvoiusly DD was a girl! This time I am carrying exactly the same- but I feel different and it's a boy. I think it's a load of rubbish, it's all to do with how your womb is positioned etc

spacecadet · 19/06/2006 21:31

woops!, half asleepBlush, tale i mean

eidsvold · 19/06/2006 23:26

not in my case - all out the front - dd2

all round dd1

HopingCat · 20/06/2006 08:59

Thanks everyone! Smile
I feel loads better now, and am definitely confident enough now to tell people that however convinced they are that it's a boy, they still have only a 50% chance of being right!

I know exactly how you feel about this Hopingcat. I was exactly the same with dd. Had bump sticking right out and was told everywhere I went 'oh its a boy, definitely.'

so I don't believe any of those people now....

GDG · 20/06/2006 11:50

I think it's rubbish - it's how you carry surely?!

Having said that, mine were all neat, out front bumps and I had 3 boys. SIL had girls and her bumps were flatter adn wider. I didn't look pg from behind at all, whereas she did.

Still think it's crap though.

Tommy · 20/06/2006 12:04

with my first pregnancy I was pregnant "all over" and my second was all out front (looked like Mr Greedy Wink) - both boys BTW.
Think this sort of old wives tales are so hilarious - as long as you take them all with a pinch of salt.....

TinyGang · 20/06/2006 12:12

I was all sideways, my friend (similar build to me) was all out at the front. We both had girls thoughSmile

Kelly1978 · 20/06/2006 12:14

was all round 1st and 3rd time, all out the front the second time. first was a girl, second was a boy, third was twin boys. I did think there was some truth in it, but I now think it's to do with size and position. I was big with dd because of lots of water. ds had hardly any. dts, well there was two in there.
