Including myself. I have to shower twice a day.

I have to hold my breath when dh hugs me HE STINKS.

I've been changing the bed sheets every other day or I cant sleep.

I haven't been in the living room for two weeks because all I can smell is cat.

9 weeks and miserable!

Oh I had this too . It did ease but never fully went away until I gave birth. I hated perfume, deodarent, air freshner, wash detergent ...smelly sausages cooking. Its hell but passes. Its a way of avoiding toxins.

StainlessSteelCat · 02/09/2013 12:40

oh I sympathise, that is horrible! for a few weeks (maybe three, not forever though it seemed it at the time!) all food smelled of fish, and I could smell a coffee from 5 metres. and then smell of coffee made me feel sick.

it does pass, or you get used to newly hypersensitive sense of smell. or your nose becomes blocked and that solves it Grin Grin

Also, I went on my hols at about 9weeks...my advice is DONT BUY ANY PERFUME NOW!

I got some in duty free and after about 20 weeks I couldn't stand the stuff. Bleurgh!

Makqueen · 02/09/2013 12:50

It's so awful though, the world stinks!

When I was pregnant with ds years ago we lived in a really grotty rented house which had mouldy carpets. When I fell pregnant It became a million times worse. So bad that I made us move 6 months before the contract was up.

Ds will be 11 soon so it's been a long time since I felt like this. I think I blocked most of it out.

I had this the first few months but its eased off now. Is there a smell you can stand - like lemon or lavender? Worth putting a few drops of an oil of a smell you do like on a hanky and keeping it in your pocket, then you can smell it when something you don't like comes by. I hated everything but I could stand lemon oil so I kept some of that nearby, burned some in a burner, rubbed a bit on my pillow etc. Helped a bit.

DH was most offended and it took me a while to get it through to him that he didnt smell, I smelled him more iykwim. He's very considerate now :)

Makqueen · 02/09/2013 13:35

I like fresh smells. I love the bed sheets when I've just washed the sheets. Maybe I'll sniff lenor!

Dh drinks a lot of coffe which I can't stand and it's all I can smell on his breath.

At least you aren't like me. I have a big dislike to all kinds of smells even the clean smells like soap and washing powder, conditioners, shampoo etc. I just use non fragranced stuff... It's horrible it makes my sickness worse ...

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/09/2013 21:52

It's food smells that turn my stomach, particularly coffee! Bacon, onion, garlic, cheese, the fridge, the food bin, all make me want to vom. Chemically smells on the other hand don't bother me and I was worried they would, working as a beauty therapist. A client asked for a coffee when I was about 6 weeks and normally I love the smell but it was too much wafting towards me on her breath I had to rush downstairs to throw up. She felt awful!

charleslingus · 03/09/2013 10:58

The smell of shops, urghhh the worst, food and cleaning products all mixed together in one retch-worthy stench. Walking past a recycling plant to work was hell on earth, like wading through week old bins. Hadn't ever noticed it before pregnancy.

As a previous poster said, went on holiday and stocked up on chanel allure. Will never, ever put that shit on my body again, it's the only smell that I still can't bear and brings back all the boaky memories.

It will get better, I used to carry the odd essential oil you could use in pregnancy and sniff it maniacally.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 03/09/2013 22:32

Oh yes - EVERYTHING stinks. Bank station on the Tube smells of hot pennies , my DH smells fishy, I smell musty, the shower smells of limescale, I can smell bad breath from across a room, I puked on a tramp because he smelled so bad I couldn't hold it in, the smell of almond oil moisturiser is nauseating.

Everything smells of something and 'smelly' things are unbearable. I am effectively a bloodhound.
I should hire myself out to CSI as a forensic tool of some kind Grin

Sucking sherbet lemons, strong mints, or chewing Gin-Gins (holland and barrett pastilles which are very very strong ginger, but very 'pure' somehow - like stem ginger) helped me. I have retched every day since i got pregnant. Good luck!

meandbumpy · 04/09/2013 15:21

Hi Makqueen, I was exactly the same in first trimester so feel your pain!

I too couldn't stand the cats and actually threatened to get rid of them, poor things! I hated the smell of Dh and didn't want him anywhere near me. Was also convinced that I smelled of dirty pond water and no amount of washing, spraying could convince me otherwise.

For the first 4 months absolutely EVERYTHING smelled horrid and even nice things like soap or washing powder would make me retch. It felt like my senses were going into protective overdrive. The only thing that helped was going for a walk in the countryside and being out in the fresh air. I'm 26 weeks now and have been back to normal for a while so there's hope. Hang in there!

Mumof3xx · 04/09/2013 15:26

With my ds2 all I could ever smells was sweaty kebabs

I hope it wasn't me!

SaucyJack · 04/09/2013 15:27

I originally read that as Bank station smells of hot peNIS Humpty.

Retching at the thought.

Brodicea · 04/09/2013 16:37

boak saucy

Cjilly · 04/09/2013 23:13

My poor DS smells to me. His breath smells terrible and it is just me because my DH says it doesn't at all.. I can't stand my DH deodorant.I threw it away and replaced it with roll-on, fragrance free. I can't stand the smell of my house! It's odd cause you can't smell your own house but I certainly can.. I vomited in the train today on this poor man's shoes because he smelt of the same disgusting deodorant my DH uses (right guard.)

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 04/09/2013 23:15

saucy sometimes it smells of that too, if you're unfortunate in your seating choice...

CointreauVersial · 04/09/2013 23:20

I had to change supermarkets because the one I used had a salad bar near the entrance, and the smell of it made me heave.

TwoTearsInABucket · 04/09/2013 23:25

rice cooking. I cooked some the other day (I am now about 29 weeks) and its like I was 9 weeks again. The smell is hideous.

Smells aren't so strong anymore, but I still have the metal taste in my mouth. Boo.

Frangepani · 05/09/2013 01:32

I remember walking into the kitchen and being assailed by the smell of slightly ripening bananas. I could also smell dried herbs - even though the lids were on the jars! My son is now 21 - and I still can't eat a banana with a hint of brown on it!

luxemburgerli · 05/09/2013 02:18

I had this too, particularly the bin and the fridge. If anyone opened either, I had to rush to the bathroom no matter where I was. Travelling to work on the train was hell.

I second the not buying perfume thing. DH started to use a new deodorant when I was about 6 weeks, and I can't STAND it now, at 21 weeks. Even though it is objectively fine, it makes me retch...

MrsDibble · 05/09/2013 17:16

I can barely open the fridge at the moment as it is so awful - nothing particularly wrong with our fridge but it has food in it! No one is allowed to cook onions in our house because the smell is so terrible to me. Trains/trams are awful - if anyone has eaten a McDonalds there in the past day I can smell it and it makes me want to die. Also, why are people (men) on public transport so smelly in this heat? There do seem to be a lot of people with really bad BO problems at the moment! Or if could be me being oversensitive...

In my first pregnancy I had an aversion to the smell of my work place - something about the cleaning products they used or something was just terrible.

womma · 05/09/2013 17:20

I'm 9 weeks too, and the smell thing has hit me hard the last few days. Yesterday I ran from my seat on the tube because the bozo next to me was eating KFC...ffs! In the end I had to change carriages because I was wrenching, nice eh?

And today I had a man with chronic BO sit next to me on the train. I wanted to cry.

Not much smells good at the moment, I think a nose gay is a must.

greentshirt · 05/09/2013 17:30

Its the smell of people thats doing my head in. The girl I sit next to at work is doing a low calories liquid diet so she is in ketosis, her breath absolutely MINGS, I can smell it all the time and it makes me want to heave.

Other than that im not too bad, she would be mortified if she knew, but I can hardly speak to her at the moment!

catameringue · 05/09/2013 19:35

This makes me laff as soo true.

I didn't realise how badly my house smells.
Supermarkets smell of stale milk and vomit.

Ughhh.
