Hi ladies

I had my gallbladder removed on Wednesday following a few painful days in hospital on antibiotics. The hospital did a pregnancy test last Saturday which came back negative. My period was due today so I did a test as I am still taking painkillers and antibiotics which came back positive!

Now I'm worried sick that all the drugs and anaesthetic has damaged the embryo Sad I had a miscarriage last month so I'm so worried its going to happen again.

Does anyone have any advice or comforting words?

I don't have any experience of this but offer a supportive hand to hold.

Looking at it logically, if the test last week was neg chances are that the pregnancy is still in the very early stages so hopefully that means the chances of any damage will be very low.

I just though, If you tested neg last week, then it's likely the embryo hasn't even implanted yet so it's highly likely nothing will have effected the embryo as you would not have been sharing a blood supply yet.

Also most painkillers and antibiotics are fine to take during pregnancy so I can't see them being an issue.

If its any reassurance, I too had pelvic surgery whilst pregnant (before 20 weeks) - the anesthetist said the only damage the anesthetic would do would suppress the babies breathing, only a problem if it was being delivered which obviously at that stage he wasnt.

I was also on pretty heavy duty painkillers (morphine mainly)

DS1 is now 2.7 and fine, no problems whatsoever

I would get in touch with someone as soon as you can (midwife or GP maybe?) and get them to set your mind at rest and change your drugs if needs be

Congratulations and hope you're at full health again soon inbetween the morning sickness, cravings, heartburn etc Grin

I had meningitis when I was 11 weeks pg with ds2 and had to have a lot of antibiotics and serious pain relief. I worried all the time. However, he is now nearly six months old, curled up in my arms sleeping and perfectly perfect in every wayGrin if you are really ill, you have to be treated, that's just the way it is.

I hope this reassures you but I was going to have my gall bladder removed in my second trimester. I was in such bad pain in the first trimester that it was the only solution. The consultant said there was only a small chance of the baby not making it.

Luckily the pain just didn't come back for the remainder of my pregnancy and I had my gall bladder removed when the babies were 6 weeks old.

Thank you so much everyone, I feel very much reassured now! Have to make an appointment for the doctor next week anyway to see about my stitches so will mention it then. Smile
