Groin Pain - what can it be?

Have just started getting pain under my bump in the groin area (am 24 weeks pregnant). It came on today while I was emptying the dishwasher (thats what I get for attempting to do housework!) and is there whenever I walk, move, etc although it is ok when I sit down.

Do you think I have strained myself? - did about 20 lengths when I went swimming yesterday or do you think something else could be wrong? (like SPD or something)

When I walk I feel as if I have to hold my groin area or walk hunched over a bit - hope it passes by morning as I have a 2 1/2 year old to run around after too.

Hi Seona,

Sorry probably won't be of too much help but I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and have developed the pain you describe. I think the thing we have in common is that we've both been swimming (I've been going about 3 or 4 times a week)- so I'm guessing it's a muscle strain rather than anything more sinister? Anyway if it doesn't go in a couple of days I might give the midwife a call.

Hope you feel better!

Could be stretching pains?

If it feels like you have been riding a bike for too long it is SPD
I got mine following some gentle breastroke at the pool.

That definitely sounds like SPD. I had it with both my children. Go and talk to the midwife about it as it can get really bad, if you manage it carefully you should be fine, but with my first I ended up bed-ridden. Not good!!!

thanks for all the messages - I have been feeling a bit tender today as well. From reading about it, you are advised to avoid breast stroke - which is what I was mostly doing at the pool on Saturday!!! If it doesnt ease off in the next few days I will certainly speak to my midwife. Is there much they can actually do to help?
