Regular but I've name-changed because I don't want people I know IRL to know about this.

I'm 24, been with DP 7 months. We live together and we're actually meant to be getting engaged this weekend. I've had my periods regularly since I was 13, always on time. I was pregnant before at 19 but I miscarried at 13 weeks.

Anyway, my period is four days late and I've felt nauseous/sick for most of the day ever since. I don't really have any other symptoms. DP is picking up a pregnancy test after work.

I'm terrified. We want a family but not right now, but if I am, I'm going to keep it. Need some hand-holding until tonight, please!

See what the test says then worry about the practical problems - I assume if they are resolved you'd be happy?

possiblypregnant · 30/08/2013 07:05

I am happy, just terrified, really! I know I need to wait and see what the test says but I just have this feeling that I am. I'm more worried about the financial aspect and having to tell my parents!

Don't worry possibly! It can be a shock, but be calm. The money can be found and your parents will have to deal. You are a grown woman.

Congratulations on your engagement! Wouldn't this be a lovely double announcement?

Try to relax and keep yourself as distracted as possible today. The result will be the same now as it is this evening so there's no rush. Maybe get him to pick up two tests though, one for this evening and if it's negative one for your first morning wee tomorrow.

If you are you have 9 whole months to prepare yourselves and that is plenty of time. For now just keep yourself busy.

Thank you! I'm just trying to distract myself for now, but the nausea is making it pretty impossible.

Hang on in there. Small sips of water if the nausea is fairly mild should help.

Are you at work or at home?

possiblypregnant · 30/08/2013 08:25

At home for now. I have work 12-5, though.

Ooh, that's harder. Can you not get to the shops before you start work? I assume not.

I'd set yourself some jobs to distract yourself - clean out that cupboard full out out of date tins, hoover the carpets. Or if you are physically up to it, go for a long walk. Sitting on MN is unlikely to help distract you!

possiblypregnant · 30/08/2013 08:40

I can, but DP is at work until 3, so we agreed to wait and do it together!

I'm watching TV and feel pretty distracted apart from the nausea! I know worrying won't change anything though :)

How did it go, OP?

SusuwatariToes · 30/08/2013 19:18

Hi!
I was in pretty much the same position as you. We had only been together around six months and it was definitely not what either one of us had planned and we had a lot of practical problems to sort out (including me not being entitled to health care and my health insurance not covering pregnancy) but it was worth it and I now have a great husband and a beautiful 9 month old wee boy. Just wanted to let you know that it's not as scary as it seems as the time (I was petrified). Good luck!
