Hello everyone,

I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me whether there is a 'standard' NHS matty pay, or whether it differs from trust to trust?

Thanks!

Yes there is. Google 'afenda for change terms and conditions', or if you're a doctor go to the bma website. But you'll need to read your Trust policy too to make sure you've done all they require.

Agenda, even. Also, it won't matter if you've moved nhs employer.

If you're an NHS employee with mote than 26 weeks service it's:

  • 8 weeks full pay
  • 18 weeks half pay plus SMP
  • 13 weeks SMP
  • 13 weeks no pay (if you want to)

You are entitled to accrue annual leave & public holidays while on mat leave. I've chosen to average my maternity pay out over 9 months, which I agreed in advance with Payroll.

Some trusts (mine) are a bit funny with annual leave & don't let you carry it between different financial years.

Thanks everyone, that's brilliant. I'd read that at first, but then found a different document that scared me a bit (damned google!). Much obliged to you all.

I didn't realise you accrued bank holidays too! I will have to check that out.

Hopelass · 30/08/2013 06:21

Yep to the above. I was really pleased when I found out about the accrued bank hols; it means when I go back part time I can effectively have almost another month off!! I finished yesterday for 13 months Grin

Carole803 · 01/09/2013 12:26

I shall check it out in my Trust's policy. Thanks for the heads up.

Sorry to ressurect an old(ish) thread, but I'm hoping the folk that commented on this before can help me.
I'm on mat leave now, have been since 1st august. I'm taking nearly five months off mat leave. I've asked them to spread my pay equally over that period.
In my first two pay months (Aug and Sept) I've been paid just £53 smp. My pay is considerably lower than I expected and this seems to be why. Has anyone else had this issue? It sounds like you might know lotsofcheese? Thanks!

twirlypinky · 14/10/2013 22:15

Oh and my hr dept told me that you don't accrue bank holidays. Grr!

StinkerBoo · 14/10/2013 22:33

I can second that you don't accrue back holidays. Really can't complain though, my salary stays exactly the same for the first six months, give our take £100 or so.

PinkWitch803 · 15/10/2013 05:20

Third to not accruing the bank holidays. It specifically states in my Trust's policy about that.

I chose not to spread my money out, mainly as I have very little confidence in the system and wanted to avoid the chances of a cock up!

However, I thought you only start getting SMP after the first 8 weeks. Somehow, someone in the money rooms at the government seems to think you can settle into a new family on 10p a week (sarcasm obviously ;)). Sooo if you are getting your SMP spread out, it is likely to bring down the amount, alot.

However, mixed in with your NHS maternity pay, you should be taking home a figure nearer to your normal pay. Maybe not quite as much, but near enough. Especially if you are only taking five months.

I would give payroll a call, although if they aren't that helpful, try asking HR for advice.
