Good Morning,

Despite my promises to myself that i will stop testing - i can't.

Little bit of background - I am 5w today which is further than i have ever got before, having suffered 5 previous chemical pregnancies (all before 4w 5d). I am on Mr S's treatment programme.

I know that my lines are strong which is also a first for me, but today's seems to be ever so slightly lighter - what do you think? Is that a concern?
You should be able to see a photo here . . .

I have asked OH to hide the tests from me now so i can't be tempted from now on! Hmmm....not sure how that will work out!

all opinions welcome

Thanks

amy

Is it from the same batch?

RegainingUnconsciousness · 29/08/2013 09:06

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and very pleased that this seems to be going well.

Relax, of course there will be variation for a number of reasons, not least your level of hydration.

It's still positive, that's really all you can extrapolate from this.

Hide those tests now.

Same make, Superdrug, but over 2 batches. All done with FMU, though my wee seemed to be more pale/more diluted this morning - sorry for TMI

Oh, and I really can't see a difference.

PrincessKitKat · 29/08/2013 09:07

Anyway it doesn't matter whether it is or isn't:
No it doesn't look lighter to me
I honestly think you need to try & relax a bit - you are pregnant and getting anxious over the shade of the line on your HPT is not going to help you or your bean.

Put the tests away & try to enjoy this special time Smile

All the lines look the same to me x

AmyHS · 29/08/2013 09:10

haha, thanks ladies - you know as soon as I read this back I really started to think i am being silly - It's like my head knows al the sensible answers, but the rest of me just turns into a paranoid mess over the smallest thing!

I am sure i'm not alone, thanks for keeping me sane!

OH has taken the tests thank god!

Yes just try and relax and enjoy being pregnant :)

The lines all look the same ;-) Once they get that dark, they don't get darker! (trust me, I am a POAS expert!)

First Response would show better progression BUT.. with lines that dark at this stage you wouldn't be able to tell much either. Lines also go lighter and darker on pretty much a whim (diet/hold/dye in test/fluid intake) - I've had lighter lines two days running but baby is two years old now!

If you really want to be reassured, you need to get some betas.. lines just aren't helpful enough! If you can't get anyone to give you any (which seems a bit mean if you've had five early losses, but I know how random the NHS can be) you can sometimes find places who will do serial bHCG privately. There's even some online places, where they issue the "prescription" as if they were a GP, and you get it done at a local private hospital.

Given you're already five weeks you may do better waiting 7-8 days and going for an early scan instead.

Good luck.. but in my honest opinion those lines look just fine for 5 weeks and before - nice, strong, decent lines. As good as you could hope for at this stage!

CatsCantFlyFast · 29/08/2013 14:06

What crispy said. The darkness of a line depends strongly on the dilution of your urine (all FMU is not the same), the amount of urine (and whether first, middle or last bit of your urine stream) on the test strip, and the amount of dye in the test. Identical tests from within the same test make and batch still have differences in the amount of dye, so 2 of the same tests done in the same urine at the same time can vary in how dark the line is too.
Therefore comparing lines on tests in this way will tell you nothing I'm afraid. (However I understand the compulsion as I tested daily til around 6 weeks). Continue if you want but only with the attitude a line is a line (do not compare them) or instead save your money and go for an early scan!
Good luck

AmyHS · 29/08/2013 16:07

Ah thanks again - I do feel much more reassured. I already have a scan booked in for sat 7th so I think i am just going to see it through til then - no more tests i promise!

You are all so wise!
