I'm 30 +3 weeks and the other week I went into hospital with suspected ruptured membranes. I told the midwife that I think it may just be an infection so they did a swab and sent it off and told me they would be in touch if anything shows up.

In the meantime she noticed my arm was all swollen and red so called a doctor in, turns out the whooping cough jab had given me severe cellulitis Angry I was given antibiotics and sent home.

A few days later the midwife called me and said that I have got bacteria vaginosis and I needed more antibiotics. Dp went and got the prescription and cashed it for me (such a good one Smile) and I started taking them immediately.

A week later I have finished the antibiotics but I still don't feel any better, in fact I feel worse Confused
I have had a constant headache for three days and i have a bit of a tmi problem Blush. I cannot go to the toilet without opening my bowels and I have got really bad stomach ache (been like this for around 4 days) Sad I'm thinking this could be a side effect from the antibiotics.

Should I feel better now that I have finished the course or will it take time still?
Should I phone the midwife and explain this to her and see what she says?
Or am I worrying over nothing?

Sorry it's so long!!

Thanks

hey, sorry to hear your not well, and all the trouble your having

to be on the safe side i would give the midwife a call. thats what shes there for...
also i think you may be having side affects from the anti-biotics... but again, im not a medic so id ring your midwife.. you may even need another dose if you're still feeling crappy.

hope u feel better soon xx

I got a bug after having whooping cough - they put me on Some v strong antibiotics which were renowned for giving you a bad stomach - I went to the docs and they basically said I had a virus & a bacterial infection and was v dehydrated - they gave me a different set of antibiotics and told me to rest and drink as much as possible and I felt much better in a few days - hope you feel better soon xxx

I had to have a second course of antibiotics to clear up a chest infection earlier this year - the doctor explained to me that it can take longer for your body to heal when pregnant as the baby is taking all the good stuff. I'd go back to the doctor/mw.

I would think the opening bowels part and also feelling rough will be down to the antibiotics. I had gynea surgery in march and was given a certain type of antibiotic for treatment of infection in that area, which made me feel so sick/runs etc that i had to stop taking them. Ask if there is an alternative if you do need more but it may be that once the antibiotics are out your system and the side effects wear off you will start to feel better x

I suffer from recurrent bv :-( if its not going away with anti b's which is sometimes the case then you could try bio active gel but check with the pharmacist that it is Ok in pg first. I have done quite a bit of research and discovered that if I take a strong pro biotic daily it keeps away. If I miss more than a few days it comes back.

I would imagine that the anti b's have messed with your stomach and made you have a dodgy tummy.

Don't take pro biotics at same time as anti b's because the anti b's will kill them off so it's pointless. You should take pro biotics after a course of anti biotics anyway to replace the good bacteria which will have been killed off.

Like everyone else said see your midwife if you feel unwell.

Take care.
