change in movement - hospital visit

I've noticed a change in movement lately as I'm getting less powerful kicks and more flutters. I also don't get 10 kicks an hour, sometimes it's very quiet and then goes crazy. I mentioned this to gp today who suggested I go to hospital tomorrow if I don't get 10 kicks every hour especially this evening when home from work. It's looking like I'll be taking that trip tomorrow morning, just wondering if anyone else had this same situation and what happens in the hospital?? I'm not majorly worried as baby is moving and heartbeat was found today, perhaps I have a lazy little being in there?!

My mw and consultant suggest 10 movements a DAY not hour. But if you normally get 10 an hour and now dont go in to get checked any change should be looked at, hth.

I don't get anywhere near 10 kicks/movements and hour (i'd be suprised if its 10 a day), and never have - but this is normal for my bb.

I have been for an extra scan when his movements stopped for a day. It was nice, reassuring and fun to get an extra picture and look at the baby.

How many weeks are you?

I went in for monitoring at about 28 weeks. I hadn't felt baby move all morning, and I had a real pattern by then.

I called my midwife at lunchtime who advised I called the day unit at the hospital. They invited me in.

I took my notes, and was hooked up to a monitor for about an hour check baby's heartbeat, and I had a button to press whenever I felt baby move. I could hear baby hitting the monitor thing, but couldn't feel anything!

After an hour I'd felt enough kicks for them to be happy and they were happy with baby's heart rate too.

They'll be happy to see you! It's not at all scary. My little one had just turned around. Glad I checked though.

I can go hours with no movements then have loads in a short space of time then nothing again. I in no way have ten an hour. My midwife said to just go off what's normal for me. So if it suddenly changes then get checked but if its normal for you then I'm sure all will be ok. Xx

I didn't have a scan though - maybe I would have if I hadn't starting to feel baby enough. Or maybe different hospitals have different policies.

The RCOG patient leaflet is good on fetal movement. Key is to know what's normal for you and ask for help if anything changes. And their guide is 10 movements in two hours - that's lying quietly and concentrating. A friend told me about 10 movements a day and I was a bit Hmm that's quite low.

My movements are different now at 26 weeks, much more general feelings of fluttering and shifting and fewer kicks. I can also often feel more from the outside than from the inside.

I'm 30 weeks and gp seemed pretty certain it should be 10 an hour but perhaps being over cautious! In the last few days baby seems to have some quiet time and then a busy hour making up for it. I guess no harm to get it checked just for peace of mind!

They do say 10 an hour as a guideline, but each baby is different. I'm 37 weeks and a couple of weeks ago I hadn't felt much movement, particularly at the time of day she was normally very active. I rang the maternity unit as it was a Sunday and they told me to come straight in. They were very reassuring in the phone that all was well, but still wanted to monitor me.

Went in and was strapped to a monitor which measured the heartbeat. Had to press a button every time I felt a movement and the results came out on a graph. A Dr and nurse looked at the graph and we're very happy with the results. As it was the first time this had happened they sent me home after about an hour on the machine (I think they keep you in if it happens a second time, but that could just be where I live).

As soon as we left the baby kicked me ferociously for the rest of the day so I felt a bit silly, but was glad I had gone and put my mind at rest.

my movements reduced dramatically last week. I went in and was admitted, they did 3 ctgs (the graph machine) and explained the variability they were looking for in the baby's heart beat and how it should correlate to movements. I have a very active baby but was sick which obviously affected things. I had a scan and all was back to normal 2 days later.
