Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has any magic ideas-8 and a half hours in a car tomorrow when I only just managed 20 minutes today...
I have prepared:
A box of dry crackers
Caffeine free coke
A bucket
Hmm

Ginger biscuits might be useful or pieces of stem ginger? A packet of mints too might be good and having a toothbrush and toothpaste handy might help if you are sick.

Ice cold water to sip? Something that smells good to sniff incase there are nasty smells on the journey? (my favourite was lemon essential oil on a handkerchief) Wet wipes/baby wipes to clean up with or just keep you feeling fresher, sometimes washing your face can make you feel much better.

Sorry but at the beginning of this pregnancy you wouldn't have got me in a car for 8 hours. No matter what was waiting for me at the other end. Good luck!!

My heart goes out to you on this I can't even drive my self ay were more than 10 min without borking I didn't expect this sickness to be so bad. Some lovely ladies on here suggested lemonade and it has helped me but I found the cloudy lemonade is best, and ready salted crisps have been helping me too. You could try some foxes boiled sweets only because I suffered with really bad travel sickness as a kid and sucking on boiled sweets did seem to help. Hope you have a some what comfortable journey x

I used boots acupuncture bands I got the kids ones as they were cheaper and my wrists are tiny. I wasn't sick for more than half the journey. It turned out to be a 7 hour joirney with delays on the rosd. Usually when pregnant within the first hour I'm sick on a journey. So on that basis i say they helped and I'd use them rather than nothing.

also nibble on dry food like biscuits don't nibble on strong foods like cheese flavoured crisps u will be sick.

boiled sweets can be good too.

Fizzy drinks may make you sick but I suppose you could try it everyone's different. Water made me feel sick too but u have to have some drink otherwise dehydrate.

I didn't eat lunch either just nibbled on biscuits and salted crisps when I was famished. Food makes me sick.

As daft as it sounds, being the driver is one of the only things which stops my morning sickness. Maybe you could try that?

You have my sympathy, I've had MS twice now and it's bloody awful Sad

CatsCantFlyFast · 28/08/2013 19:19

Water and tissues or wet wipes. Mouthwash. A pillow so you can get as comfortable as possible.
Good luck, I feel for you

I'll swop you your eight hour car journey for an 11 hour round trip by train Sad Although my ms comes out the other end so maybe a train would be better for me (assuming the train loos work).

Good luck.

I did a three hour trip on the weekend and took carrier bags, wipes, loads of mints, pear drops, sprite, water, crisps. (Ready salted) and tuc biscuits. Too many of each item made me feel ill but alternating helped. Trial and error I think. Ate most of the biscuits and crisps. Having the window down is a must. And try to stop on the way and eat.
Maybe try anti sickness bands? (Not tried them myself but might help)
Good luck

I found that, annoyingly, the more prepared I was the less likely I was to actually be sick so you might find it easier today.

I'd take a towel as well as the bucket to mop up any spills. Just accept the fact you will probably be sick a lot and hopefully that will at least take the stress out of the situation!

sleepy78 · 28/08/2013 19:51

Thanks everyone - weirdly it just makes me feel better knowing I'm not being pathetic and that other people find it as horrible as me!
I have added a six pack of salty crisps and I'll put something nice smelling - that's a great idea Heffalump My deodorant made me throw up this morning... I have to go because I 'm heading home and have work on Friday.
Eeyoreish -I feel your pain! Are you going tomorrow?
Forthelove - I am a scaredy cat and only generally drive to the creche and back. 8 hours of motorway is my idea of hell.....

I'm off at 6am so I'll let you know how it goes!

Yes, 11 hours travelling for a meeting that's only 4 1/2 long Angry

hope your journey goes well!

StillPukin · 28/08/2013 20:42

I know that there are some travel sickness pills you can take while pregnant (not all), it might be worth speaking to a pharmacist, they might be able to help you with the nausea/sickness.

Good luck with it, I dont envy you one bit x

sleepy78 · 28/08/2013 20:54

Good luck Eeyoreish . Let us know how it goes-we can clutch our buckets in unison.. Sad
