So, following my other thread of last week I have found out this service is available I my area. Has anyone had experience of it and would like to share? Pros and cons?

Sorry - I haven't - but would like to follow this thread.

I'd also like to know what areas it is working in, as I think it's north west only, but would like to see!

helterskelter99 · 27/08/2013 16:41

I had it at west Middx it's called case loading and was absolutely fab

Stevie77 · 28/08/2013 11:55

Thank you!

Anyone else used them and can share their experience?

Where are you based? I'm in the northwest, and will be changing to them after my 20 week scan. Reason for this is that although they cover my local area, I would have had to go to Birkenhead for my 12 and 20 week scans rather than my local hospital and this would have taken me most of the day for each scan! After 20 weeks if I need to go into hospital for anything I can be under their care but still use my local hospital. Have met up with the midwife that will be doing my care though and she is lovely - they offer things like free hypnobirthing classes too!

I've just chosen a caseload team for my second pg. I have only ever heard and read fabulous reports of this system. Having your own named midwife who will most likely deliver your baby is really the gold standard in midwifery, it leaves all your childbirth options open, from candlelit homebirth to full on drugs in hospital. I'd go for it.

messybedhead · 28/08/2013 13:32

I had one of these with my first DC. I would highly recommend it.

She did stay for the delivery (although a doctor delivered as I needed forceps) even though she wasn't on duty that night.

I trusted her and she made a horrible birth easier.

Oh and she also treated me like I was a human being! Grin

Stevie77 · 28/08/2013 13:36

Thanks both!

Rockchick I'm in the NW too and the location I was given for scans is in Stockport. Perhaps it depends where in the NW you are?

It sounds like a good idea and I can't think of any reason to not do it or why it would not be good. Thing is, I'll be having a CS and will be under consultant care due to things that have happened with my first DD. I am not sure how it will work in that case.

I've just checiked and they not in the West Mids, I've heard they're good, I think mainly NW.

I am 30+3 and under One2One. I have literally nothing bad to say about them so far. Like a gift from heaven.

My visits are at home and she involves the other DC with things like hb Doppler, bp checks, etc. They love her too.

Obviously I can't comment on the birth bit yet Grin but a friend had a home VBa2C with them after the hospital said she would "have to have a third section" and she says it was incredible.

I am feeling really empowered and positive about my labour, delivery and recovery with One2One.

HorryIsUpduffed · 28/08/2013 18:39

Didn't see your CS post. Your One2One can do everything for you but the delivery and initial recovery in hospital, then. She can still do the vast majority of your antenatal care, and the postnatal month (ish). To be honest that last bit alone is going to be invaluable.

Rockchick1984 · 28/08/2013 19:35

Stockport is even further for me that Birkenhead Grin

Stevie77 · 28/08/2013 19:54

Great, thanks everyone! I think I'll go for it :-)

Im really interested in this too and located in the north west. I'll be at the countess of chester and am very worried following some absolute disaster births from a few people I know and the maternity services not having a great reputation.

Does the one2one thing also act as a bit of an advocacy thing? its my big fear that there wont be the staff available to give proper care or they wont take action when its needed so am thinking this might help allay my fears

LittlePeaPod · 28/08/2013 20:28

I use them and they're amazing... Recommend them all day every day..

HorryIsUpduffed · 28/08/2013 20:44

greentshirt I had DC1 and DC2 happily at COCH so have nothing bad to say about them.

If you give birth in hospital, you can still have your One2One do your early labour assessments at home and accompany you in as late as is sensible, but I was told she is just there to hand over - give your history and status and wish you luck. She isn't there to be a doula, no.

If you'd like to chat about COCH do feel free to PM me.

greentshirt · 28/08/2013 20:49

I would love to! If I can work it out will send you a message now :) Thank you
