Well just as the title says really- baby started measuring small at 20 Wk scan, 11 days behind. Was scanned everyday for next 3 weeks & it slipped further and further back measuring in abdomin 3wks behind at 24 Wk scan. Was warned baby will b premature, possibly even being born at early 30 ish weeks, +I've already been given steroid injections to develop its lungs. As u can imagine I'm worrying and was just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what the outcome was? Thanks in advance for any help xx

so sorry you are going through this, it is so stressful.

i am in exactly the same situ. had a cerclage at 15 weeks, then baby started measuring behind, and still is. i had the steroids at 24 weeks when big panic that baby as engaged.

i'm 34 weeks but babe measuring 31. i get scanned very week and the placenta looks ok as do the dopplers (blood flow into baby).

consultant says it may just be that i and my husband are tall and slim.

i'm actually just back from the hospital having evaded an EMCS as having contractions.

so, despite having lots of scares, i am still hanging in there. how does your placenta and dopplers look? there is a big thread on this in the premature section i think, i will try to find it for you.

i know it is super worrying but take it a week at a time. it doesn't automatically mean the baby will be super early.

Hi Kelly1814, thanks for replying and sending me that link. I've started reading it and its reassuring to read about other people in our situation with happy outcomes!

Sorry u r going thru this as well, but u r doing brilliant to hav gotten to 34 weeks, fx baby Kelly1814 stays in there another few weeks!

For now my placenta and Doppler scans look fine, but even with that baby is a good bit behind so I think plan now is to monitor that and wait for it to deteriorate, then get her out asap! It's the wait and see game that's the hardest at the mo!

I'm off to read this link you sent me, and try not to worry! Good luck to you and baby, hope it all works all well for you xxx

Hi! Same problem here. I got to 36 weeks though and baby was measuring 30 weeks.
Doppler and placenta looked ok and baby movement was good. I was scanned frequently towards the end and it was descided that as DD wasn't growing at all by this point that she had to be delivered very soon. They said I could could have 1 round of induction and if that didn't work or dd became distressed, it would have to be a section.
I'm happy to say that induction was successful and she arrived safely weighing a not to shabby 5lb!

Best thing I found was keeping positive, my DH was always trying to make me laugh and keep thungs as lighthearted as possible. It really helped to minimise stress.

Wishing you all the best!

Sunshine, thanks for your positive words....adjust back, from another check and baby measuring 29 weeks on the tummy when I am 34. Overall around 31. Weighs around 4 pounds.

Hoping to get a few more ounces on him or her in the next week, like you, if not, baby comes out.

Love sleep bunnys 5 pound baby, that's a great weight.

Best of luck OP. much as I wish none of us were going through this, it has really helped to hear other stories and get support, so thank you.

Sorry for not replying sooner- took a week of work to get over the news and side effects from the steroids! But return to work this week and weirdly trying to make it less stressful weirdly creates more stress- but hopefully just in the shirt term!

sleepybunny ur story is so reassuring. Even though ur lil daughter was measuring so far behind she's clearly a real fighter and came out a reli good weight! I hope my daughter is just like her!
Will try to maintain my posivity and humour in the hope of a similar outcome! Grin

Kelly1814 glad ur appointment went well but that is also a good weight and gestational age so hopefully ur lo will be ok. But I'm sure it doesn't stop u worrying.
I hope it all works out for you, best of luck xxx

Actually can I draw on ur experiences and ask if you's hav any good questions etc I should ask or speak to my consultant about at my appointment next week??

I'd ask about your delivery choices. What's is your consultants plan, and what would you like to happen? You can still have a birth plan, although keep very flexible obviously!

Also I'd have a good think about your intended feeding choice. Little babies get very tired easily and breast feeding can be difficult to establish. I'd ask about the hospitals policies on this particularly if your LO has to spend some time in the NICU. You may need to express and I'd ask for extra support if its available.
I found breast feeding very stressful and formula top ups were required as our LOs obviously can't afford to lose any weight like term babies do naturally. That said, I heck of a lot of work later and shes still Managing at 9 months. Although I wouldn't get so wound up about it if I was to do it again. Kelly mom is a great website for advice on this.

Best of luck, it's a stressful experience but nothing compares to the moment your precious bundle arrives!

Thanks sleepybunny I''ll bear all those questions in mind! Wud still like a natural birth if poss, so that's something to discuss.

Hello, didn't want to read and run. I am 26+4 with twins and at my 20w scan my little was diagnosed with onset severe IGUR. I've had low fluid since 10w and my boy has SUA. At my last scan he was 3 week behind yet he's still developing well. My little girl is on target for weight etc and hasn't been effected by my or her brother's problems. They think I will deliver early but aren't too concerned and have steriods scheduled for 32 weeks to help my boy.

I'm scared shitless going from scenario to scenario in my head but I'm resting and doing what I can.

I wish you luck through your PG! Xx

MultipleMama · 31/08/2013 14:28

Oh and I discussed my delivery options if I go into early (30w+) labour naturally and babies aren't in distress then I can have the vag birth I wanted. However if any problems etc then C-Sec is the back up plan. I'm lucky my consultant is laid back and tries his best to meet my wishes.
