Has anyone NOT got GD in pg#2 after having it in pg#1?

Just that really - was diagnosed with GD in first pregnancy and had been just about to start insulin when DS arrived early at 32 weeks. I had a negative GTT at 16 weeks (nearly 26 now), and I've just been remarking to DH how much better I feel this time round. I mean, I've got sacroiliac dysfunction and SPD, which is limiting my mobility, and a spell in hospital with a pregnancy-related liver thing, but I remember at this point last time feeling desperately unwell and wondering how I'd ever last another 14 weeks (ha! If only I'd know!), and I'd had to take off my wedding ring at 22 weeks as my hands had swollen so badly. I've had none of that this time, my wedding ring is still loose and other than being a bit tired - which could just be down to having a toddler and a full time job - I feel great!

I'm starting to get hopeful that I may avoid the dreaded GD this time, but I've never heard of anyone not getting it the second time round! I did lose over 3 stone before getting pregnant again, but was still overweight.

Not myself personally, but my sister had GD with DC1 and avoided it completely with DCs 2 & 3.
Her GD was diet controlled (she blood tested four times a day I think?), so I assume not too severe, and having had to learn how to control it the first time around, she basically ate a 'diabetic diet' the second and third times.
She had no obvious risk factors for GD, and was in the US for DC1 - she wondered if she would even have been diagnosed with it if she'd been pg over here, as her SIL wasn't diagnosed until GD hospitalised her.

How many tests did you take the first time around OP?

If only 1, was it just a 1hr test or 2hr?

The 1hr test is notoriously unreliable. And many doctors are quick to prescribe insulin.

Having said that, yes it can be skipped over if you have made diet/lifestyle changes in between.

I didn't have a test the first time Mummy, my random glucose then fasting glucose was so high they didn't think a GTT was necessary. I have to say that given how crappy I felt, plus how all over the place my BMs were once I started monitoring them, I have to agree!

Ah, my apologies. I had a bad experience with my own Dr. so am a bit quick to jump to conclusions about GTTs. I had to do a 2 hr test to confirm that, nope, no GD, just a bad reading on Test 1. But the dr was ready for me to go on insulin just from that...it was scary.

That must have been really hard for you, but good to hear you're feeling better during this pg.

Well, I have been told by a mum I met at a playgroup that she had GD for her first pg, 2nd impaired glucose tolerance, and 3rd, nothing at all. She changed her diet and lost a ton of weight, even managed a homebirth! Maybe her case was rare but not impossible.

Best of luck to you!

They do tend to over-diagnose GD, I know. A colleague (we're nurses) got a panicked phone call from her MW saying her random glucose had come back (and I quote) 'very high' and she'd booked her a GTT the next morning - she had to cancel a weekend away as the MW INSISTED it absolutely had to be then. It was on a Saturday morning. Of course, the GTT came back fine, and when questioned the MW admitted the random glucose was 7.4! My colleague was LIVID, as you may know normal is 4-7, and having forgotten she was having a blood test my colleague had just eaten a load of fruit pastilles, which she told the MW taking the blood!

But no, I definitely did have it, without a doubt!
