Pregnant and Can't sleep....?

I know all the books say it but I seriously can't sleep. I'm 33.5 weeks and have a squirmy baby who just moves all day (and night) long and on top on that now have carpal tunnel in my hands, making sleeping impossible.

Likely to stop soon or simply the new normal? After all it can't exactly be better once the baby is here, right?

I don't know if it will get better, but you aren't alone. I'm 33 weeks too and due to my girl kicking about, restless legs, back pain and heartburn I'm struggling to sleep too. I'm not at work so am just sleeping when I can during the day. Sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel syndrome, that's not fun!! Glad to hear your baby is nice and active though :)

Me too! Achey back , pelvis and legs keeping me awake. Constant getting up and having baths in the night Hmm I'm 34+4....

Me too. I'm 23 weeks but broken wrist with massive cast, recovering from a chipped spine, and my hips aching when i lie on my side. and the heat means no sleep for me :(

You can get splints for your wrists to wear at night which really help. Either a referral to physio from your midwife or gp (prob be too late by the time you get in) or they sell them in boots.

It does actually get better once baby arrives as you can hopefully get a few hours in a row uninterrupted without needing a wee or being kicked and a glass of wine to help you relax. I definitely slept better once my DS arrived compared to those last weeks of pregnancy. I'm 18 weeks with DC2 and my carpel tunnel is just starting to return so i feel your pain.

Me too! 31 weeks with twins and lucky if i get more than 3 hours at a time at night. One squirming sets the other off so share your frustrations! Good luck! x

I am only 22 weeks, also with twins, and already cannot sleep and have terrible hands (numb, painful, cannot grip or make a fist) too. I aren't kept awake by the babies moving but just cannot stay asleep. I go to sleep but then wake at about 2am and that is it. I have ages to go yet and am not even that big so can only imagine this getting worse. Everyone I have mentioned this to have said it is your body getting ready for sleepless nights - grrrrr.

Hope everyone gets the rest they need, it is obviously a common problem.

31 weeks with awful restless feet and PGP here so sympathising with you. Going crazy from lack of sleep and the fact that I need to pee every 1/2 hour isn't helping

RunningBear78 · 27/08/2013 04:34

also bored of not sleeping. Doesn't seem to make a difference if I am active or lazy during the day have a daytime nap or jot. I always wake up at about 3.30 and spend a few hours trying to get back to sleep. Very bored... Need to find interesting things to do (other than mn) in the night. Quite looking forwards to having a baby to feed/change in the night!! 37+1 here ...not long to go

Carole803 · 27/08/2013 05:18

I don't like being awake from 3:30 without the promise of an early morning taxi taking me on a fantasy holiday, but know I can share these night time chats with fellow tired, but can't sleep despite trying all tricks in the book, and only bebeing 22+5 weeks!

Anyone recomend any good books that don't require any brain power!
