Hi all,
DH and I want to have one last child free hol. There is something we've always wanted to do but it would involve a 12 hour flight. Am I nuts to even consider it? I'll be just over 20 wks when we go.

I flew to Las Vegas at 23 weeks and the flight was fine. The only thing I struggled with was the heat.
But flight wise you will be fine just make sure you drink plenty of water and move around a lot!! X

I have literally just come home (20 wks also), flying from London to Singapore, then onwards to Borneo. I felt utterly dreadful the whole flight, I am not sure if it was the pressure in the cabin or something else, but I had the worst stomach cramps which I could feel easing as we started to descend and finally land.

We booked the second to back row which was great, nr the gantry? I stood up for pretty much the whole of the flight which seemed to help and I was close to DH and the kids still.

It was not unbearable and could of just been a personal reaction. As I am sure you are aware, drink plenty of water and wear compression stockings and move around plenty.

We live in 35 degree heat and I am just finding I am drinking more water than prior to our visit to the UK when I was 10 wks.

Have a great time if you decide to go Grin

You'll be fine, go and enjoy!

I've done 6 longhaul return flights since becoming pregnant, all 10 hour flights, with the last being when I was 28 weeks.

The only problems I incurred were puffy feet (which can be helped somewhat with flight socks and walking about frequently), and being stuck next to people who think the only way to get through a flight is to get insanely drunk and disruptive, but I think I was just unlucky to be stuck right next to them!

enjoy your holiday, the flight will be the least of your worries.. the heat on the other hand.. Wink

I've just come back from the states (flew at 32 and 35 weeks)). All fine. Just drink a lot of water and keep moving. My legs did swell up to quite a size though but went down after one nights horIzontal sleep. Really just go and enjoy it!

Flew to states at 24 weeks. Was fine. I was quite small then and bump seemed to pop out on flight. But that could just have been timing

We did long haul twice, at 11 weeks and at 23 weeks and 23 was actually much better! You don't feel as sick, and when you look note pregnant people are more helpful and give you a bit more space. The only downside was that the queuing was a bit more knackering than usual, but it was manageable and definitely worth having that last child free break!

In terms of preparation, i just got a doctor's note saying my date and my fitness to fly (pretty much all airlines will be fine with 20 weeks, but not after 24, and I didn't want to get stuck with someone questioning how far along I was), and also had to check a few travel insurances to find one that specifically covered pregnancy. My doctor also said I should get special thigh high compression stockings to minimise any risk of DVT (not the regular ones you can buy in chemists, I had to get these fitted at a hospital pharmacy) - they were a bit expensive and SO unattractive but actually very comfortable, and came in handy when my legs got achy in the 3rd trimester.

Bon voyage! Smile

Not a problem. I flew to home to Australia at 28 weeks and was fine. Just get up and walk around more often that you usually would as your legs will swell more than usual.

I'm flying to Florida at 25/27 weeks. I'm seeing the GP next wk to get a letter and compression tights on prescription. I'm equally as worried but really want a relaxing holiday before our Dec baby. Good luck Grin

I flew to New York at 30 weeks. You'll be fine.

I flew to Mexico at 24wks with 1st baby (flew home at 26wks) & coped fine with flight & heat.

Currently pg again & flew to Spain this time at approx 23wks (I think!), again was fine. if you're feeling ok then go for it!
