Just wondering how long it took from telling your gp you're pregnant to receiving your letter from the hospital? My gp faxed the maternity unit last Wednesday. No rush just wondered.

Think it depends, a couple of friends who are due the same time as me received theirs in less than a week - I had my booking in appt last Thursday and still waiting Angry

Midwife told me if no word in two weeks to give her a ring and she would chase it up.

islingtongirl · 23/08/2013 11:33

Within 2 weeks I think, definitely wasn't longer than that

Tea1Sugar · 23/08/2013 11:46

Ok thanks. I'll expect it towards the end of next week I reckon due to bank hol

Good question - Mine was 15 days ago and still nothing, and by their records I'm 9w2d today so I'm a little concerned. I rang them up on Wednesday and they said the referral had gone through, but I have no clue who to contact the other end to chase it up and the receptionist seemed unhelpful.

Fortunately it doesn't really matter to me personally because a) this is my fourth, I know what is what and I know my medical history does not require immediate interventions and b) I'm getting my NT scan and a Harmony test privately at the Fetal Medicine Centre which is far beyond what the NHS offer anyway. The only thing that really needs doing is the regular bloodwork and as I'm in good health it's less of a hurry.

I'm fully expecting them to have booked me an unmoveable appointment for the morning DD2 starts school or something impractical.

If I remember correctly, I saw the GP when I was roughly 4 weeks and I received my letter around week 10. Hope that helps!

CrispyFB · 23/08/2013 20:18

Ugh - I hope it just means they wait until the mother is ten weeks, not that they have a six week delay! I was told to come along to the GP at 6-7 weeks when I first rang up at 3w3d asking for betas due to bleeding (which they were happy to do Smile) or I'd have gone in a lot sooner! Ah well..

coughingbeanintheoven · 24/08/2013 07:21

saw my midwife at 7 weeks got my letter about 10 days aftet. I was amazed!
Am wondering if its because I am under consultant care too though?

CrispyFB · 24/08/2013 11:18

I'll need consultant care (the GP noted it at the time) but it doesn't seem to have made a difference!

Think I will ring them again next week and ask for a number for the midwives. If nothing else, only being given what will probably be a week or so notice for my NT scan is going to make sorting out childcare very difficult.

Tea1Sugar · 24/08/2013 11:27

I'm having an early dating scan on 2nd sept and the hospital have said I'll get all my further appointments then.

Forgive the dumb question (its been 10 years since I was last in this position) but what letter? I didn't have any letters before so haven't been expecting one.

Writerwannabe83 · 24/08/2013 13:02

I told my GP on a Wednesday morning and by Saturday morning I had a letter in the post for my Booking-In appointment with the midwife. this appointment was only a week later.

During my booking in appointment the midwife rang my local hospital to organise my dating scan appointment, only to be told my GP had already done it and that my letter was in the post! The receptionist in the midwifery department said that my GP had also booked me an appointment with an Obstetrician too and that appointment was given to me over the phone.

My booking-In Midwife was quite taken aback I think by how organised it already was. She had nothing but praise for my GP Smile

Tea1Sugar · 10/09/2013 16:36

I'm 7+5 and still no date for booking in appt or scan Hmm

I had my booking in appointment at 8 weeks 3 days, midwife said I should get my scan appt in about 2 weeks. I phoned the appt number in my notes at the start of week 11 as I hadn't heard & they were lovely, gave me my appt time & letter turned up 2 days later. Got the impression they quite regularly get "worried" calls. Just give them a bell Smile

delasi · 10/09/2013 21:39

Agreed that calling is best. When I hadn't heard anything I rang the GP initially but they couldn't help, so I rang the hospital directly and got put through to the antenatal desk. Turned out they hadn't received a referral from my GP (not what I wanted to hear at the time!), but they just did it over the phone there and then and confirmed the booking in and first scan appointments (relieved!). Booking in ended up being around 9wks and scan was around 13wks. I didn't have community midwife antenatal care however due to my hospital being out of area, all my appointments were at the hospital hence I booked everything through them. When I initially rang the GP they said that for the local hospital there was a number to call for the midwives and you could speak to them direct.

CrispyFB · 11/09/2013 10:37

Call, and insist you get a midwife appointment then and there, don't let them muck you about. Really wish I'd done that, as it turned out they were lying about my referral being there. They can't book me in until I'm 14 WEEKS now Angry. Which means no NT scan referral, so I don't get that (lucky I have paid for it elsewhere..) But it also means no bloodwork until then, and not seeing a consultant probably much before 16 weeks and I'm high risk.

Tossers. Am very very cross.
