Moses safe to sleep in? And what to sleep in?

Hi, I'm having an irrational flap about the Moses basket that I bought from mamas and papas. There's quite a lot of material/edging. Presumably it's safe for the baby to sleep in when tiny? I'm wondering if I should get one of those bed nest things that sits right next to the bed instead?

Also...first timer question. I've got a couple of sleeping bags, again from m&p in the sale, but they look quite big. I'm scared of using them when he's tiny. Are they ok to start with or is it a thin blanket jobby?

Thank you :)

Moses baskets are fine, including with all the frilly bits - they're designed for new babies so don't worry! Just make sure you place baby feet to foot (i.e. with its feet right at the bottom of the basket) so there's some clearance around baby's head.

Some sleeping bags aren't suitable for newborns/babies under a certain weight so read the instructions which came with yours carefully. I seem to recall that I had one from M&P which wasn't suitable right away and I had a fairly big baby. In this weather you might not even need a blanket but very small babies often like to be swaddled. I found cellular blankets the best as they swaddle easily and aren't too stifling.

Yes Moses baskets are fine. I had a very clingy baby and I think we'd have been better off with a bed nest. I used blankets until she was 8lb odd (I had a dinky baby!). Basically they need to be big enough that they can't slide out of the sleeping bag.
