Presents for new baby

Hi, I'm after some advice as my mind is blank! Some close friends have asked us what we'd like them to buy for our baby due in 5 weeks. My natural answer is ' thanks but we don't need anything' as I feel uncomfortable asking for things. However these are close friends who want to get us something useful, my guess would be around the £20 mark.
I definitely don't want them to get us something needlessly expensive and wasteful (ie a single outfit) butwhat could I suggest?
My only ideas so far are a winter body suit thing (like a onesie coat), a nightlight, a baby bath with some baby toiletries, and toys- any idea what toys might last a while??
We are hoping to use reusable nappies but haven't tried any out yet, and nappies aren't a good present are they?!
All ideas very welcome xx

A nice blanket or some sort of colourful toy that attaches to the car seat?

Are they close friends? Get them to cook you something nice for supper a week or two after the baby is born. You're unlikely to have the energy or the inclination.

Congrats by the way!

If in doubt Boots vouchers are always good.
A couple of other ideas are:
A cleaner for a few weeks
A baby playmat
A christening outfit so special & will be kept
Nappies
Contribution towards nursery furniture
A £20 note to be used to open baby's first bank account

Maybe a nappy bin? We live in a flat so would have to constantly be putting dirty nappies outside and wouldn't have to do it so often if we had a nappy bin, and there are some great offers just now :) just a thought, was talking about this earlier :)

Cot mobile?

You can never have enough Lamaze toys, IMO (the foot rattles are great for in the car)

Or thinking ahead, some nice books, Julia Donaldson's are very good.

Thanks for the ideas, I knew mumsnet would be able to help!
A nice blanket to keep or toys for the car seat are great ideas. I'm not sure I would consider their cooking to be a treat though, we have different ideas about what nice food is!
The playmat is also a great idea, I wasn't sure how expensive they are but I guess they range in price. The money ideas I'm not so keen on as we are quite a bit better off than them so then choosing us a thing to keep would mean a lot more to us.
And nappy bin might be good, I've seen some for reusables and that will certainly be used for a couple of years.
Any more ideas very welcome.

Btw what is a foot rattle? Sounds...odd! I can't wait to hear more.

Lamaze foot rattles

I second the foot rattle (or any lamaze toys) and have asked work for them and/or car seat toys that wrap around the bar when they asked what I wanted.
