Unable to pee at night - what is going on?

I'm 13 weeks pregnant now. Since the beginning I have needed to pee at night, once or twice. The last couple of nights I have woken up about 4am really uncomfortable and bursting to go, but then really struggle to actually pee at all Confused

Last night was really bad, I was absolutely desperate but couldn't go at all. I started to think actually I didn't need to pee after all and was uncomfortable because of something else, but eventually I managed to pee a little bit standing up in the shower, and then did properly emptied a full bladder's worth on the toilet.

But what on earth is going on? I can go fine in the morning/day time, it's just at night I literally can't squeeze a drop out?

I have had a similar problem, I think it's because your womb is pressing on your bladder. I don't know why this would be worse at night but I have had the same experience. I find leaning forward when on the loo (bit awkward when you are 32 weeks like me and have a big bump!) helps to get things going, it's just harder at night to remember to do that when I'm half asleep.

Weird that it is an issue so early, surely my womb can't be that big yet? I don't remember having to pee more frequently until 3rd trimester last time either Confused

Hey I remember this happening to me earlier on in pregnancy. I used to jiggle my hips and move around a bit and that would magically allow me to pee.

Thinks its to do with baby/womb sat very low down on bladder.

maja00 I think even by your stage your womb is quite a bit bigger than it normally is. I also think with subsequent pregnancies you carry lower, I certainly feel that way. I didn't have this problem with my first pg either.

I have had the same thing. 8wks, 2nd pg (that has got this far).
I actually thought it might be because I'm usually half asleep, and it's my body holding it in subconsciously as it would if I was sleeping? I usually have to wriggle around on the seat to get it going, but I'm clearly utterly desperate and uncomfortable by the time I get there. It's very odd.

Yes definitely lean forward! It's also a good way to prevent a UTI if you get in to the habit now as it ensures all urine leaves your bladder
