Polyhydramnios in late pregnancy...any experience?

My 36 week scan last week showed my fluid measuring at 18 and apparently the normal is 14...my blood sugar has always been normal (had 2 previous blood glucose tests). Had another blood test yesterday to check my blood sugar and it is normal again. I am booked to go into the Fetal Monitoring Unit on Sunday but baby looked fine on the scan last week. I am 37 weeks but due to the size of the baby through the pregnancy the Dr now says I am 38 weeks and due 2 weeks yesterday. The baby apparently weighs approx. 4kg now which is normal for a 3rd baby...I think???
I am just worried about all of this now and don't know anyone that has had Polyhydramnios...anyone had any experience with it or have any comments please....thanks

I am almost exactly the same as you! Apart from only second child. Doctor doesn't seem very worries- just thinks it is because baby is big. I have to go back next week for another appt and scan to check the size. Like you they took more blood tests but last one was negative.
Numbers are different though, my fluid is 22 and doctor says 21 is ok.

I had polyhydramnios with my last (1st) pregnancy, discovered at 39+6 weeks. (I'm still wondering how they never picked this up until then as I was HUGE and baby was floating about in there). Picked up at Midwife appointment, she sent me to the monitoring/assessment unit the next day (40), they sent me home and told me if my waters broke to come straight back (still don't know why they sent me home) saw the consultant the next day who wouldn't let me leave the hospital as the risk of my waters breaking and cord prolapse was too great.

I was offered a stabilised induction or a c-section. After a very painful examination I opted for a c-section and my DS was born weighing 4.55kg. I was never tested for GD so I have no idea why I had polyhydramnios, but they are being extra careful with me this time round. Not sure if that helps, but that's my experience of it in late pregnancy!

Oh that is a difference in figures! I am in Dubai but I can't see the numbers being different as the hospitals go by the same rules as the Royal College! Someone has just told me that 25 is when you are classed as high and she is measuring 27! I think I need to chill out. i think too much info is dangerous! LOL I never had this years ago with my other 2. I had no other scans after 20 weeks and this time I get scanned at most visits!
Good luck your pregnancy x

Hi, I had it in my last pregnancy and again this time. Am almost 33 weeks but measuring 44!! I am unable to empty my bladder now ? due to pressure from all my extra fluid. Baby is average size. I have had steroid injections for babies lungs as delivery will be between 34/35 weeks. 35 is the preferred option and is the same stage I got to last time. Good luck, I no how uncomfortable it is.

I had this with DD (2nd pg 1st 'successful') and I found out through insisting on being checked over at 41+1. I was measuring big for a few weeks and was measuring 45wk at 40 so I said I was terrified of having an enormous baby and asked for a growth/measuring scan. I had the scan that day and was told I had approx 2litres of extra fluid and my baby was around 7lb...I was told I had to be induced the following weekend, went into spontaneous labour on the day before he induction day as my waters broke in bedBlush I was told to rush to the hospital as the risk of cord prolapse was massiveShock I was then monitored throughout the labour and DD was born at 1:56 am on the day of inductionSmile turns out she was a little bigger than they had estimated-8lb 12oz! But no other issues and I was never checked out for anything prior to having her to explain the cause... I suspected GD as I kept getting super hungry to the point that I had to eat RIGHT NOW or I would be very shakey and fainted a few times...I asked to have this checked a number of times but was always told I didn't need itHmm

Hey ho all worked out in the end though Smile although I did get a call on my mobile on the induction day asking why I hadn't turn up to the induction...from the midwife who had admitted me the day beforeShock I told her to come and visit me in the post natal ward and see for herselfGrin

I had this and delivered at 32 weeks, at the stage you're at you will be fine, good luck Flowers

I've had this since 32 Weeks with 23cms...will be full term on thurs. I've been told if waters go to head straight to hospital as there is a small risk of cord prolapse. Other then that nothing special to report...I have gd and will be induced this Saturday. They hope for a vaginal birth but I have a feeling it'll be a section, no idea why though!
