Trouble sleeping at 38+4...will try anything, within reason!

I am currently going to be around 10pm-ish and unable to fall asleep until at least 1am. I then wake up at least three or four times a night after that to go for a wee. Husband's alarm goes off around 6.45am.

My main problem is that we're practising hypnobirthing and listen to the accompanying music CD at night before we go to sleep - I'm worried that I'm starting to associate the music with frustration and desperation to sleep, rather than with relaxation!

I've tried burning essential oils, drinking warm milk, using a pregnancy pillow, taking warm baths, getting up and doing something different elsewhere in the house, listening to different music, reading etc. Husband reads hypno scripts to me, which is relaxing but doesn't actually help send me to sleep. We've swapped sides of the bed in anticipation of the baby's arrival (can't fit Moses basket on my usual side) and I don't think this has helped. Also my husband doses off as soon as his head hits the pillow, which just makes me more frustrated and jealous!

Any advice or recommendations very gratefully received...

i am so with you on this, awake at 2 am still, up all the time to pee, then up to go to work in the morning.

my doc has me taking magnesium which she says can help - no sign of it yet.

sorry no advice but you are not alone.

Ohhhh Kelly what can we do?! How is magnesium supposed to help, do you now? I might ask my mum to bring some over ASAP!

Thanks for your solidarity, much appreciated :)

Honestly, I don't think anyone sleeps well when they're that pregnant!

I would just go to bed a bit later to save the frustration of lying awake for hours then nap as much as you want during the day.

i a not sure on he magnesium, i mentioned insomnia and sore joints and she said it would help on both fronts. i'm still waiting!

foxy - napping during the day only works if you do not work :(

I'm a long time insomniac! That said i've slept better whilst pregnant than I usually do. Tricks i've found work...bath and milky tea, TV or radio on low in background with a sleep timer set, not eating after 6ish, changing setting ie.going to spare room, cool pillows, mentally working through shopping lists, avoiding electronic devices such as phones, trying to day dream, having a chat with oh and cuddle, someone stroking my hair. Only problem for me is its a different thing that seems to work each night Wink
