Ladies (and gents), in your experience, Is it possible to have a negative pregnancy test (approx 3.5 weeks after the potential conception) and then have periods as normal, yet still be pregnant? I feel like I'm losing my mind, but I swear something is kicking me... Is 3.5 weeks too soon to show an accurate negative?

All thoughts gratefully received....

I should say, by my amateur calculations, I would currently be c22weeks if in fact the negative test was wrong....

You say you would be 22 weeks pregnant? You would know by now if you were that pregnant! Your post and comment was a bit confusing. You say 3.5 weeks after conception then say you'd be 22 weeks... Could you clarify?

I'm a little confused also, do you mean you did the test a few months ago and now you're thinking it was wrong because you think you feel something??

While some women do continue to have periods through out pregnancy there are other signs you'd have noticed by 22 weeks, weight changes for example?

If you really aren't sure you could try another test? I mean at 22 weeks it should show positive lol Grin

Of course, apologies for not being clearer. I meant I took a test which came back negative, some 3.5 weeks after having unprotected sex, that was around the middle of April. It was negative, so thought nothing further of it, continued to have my periods as normal but this weekend have felt a bizarre fluttering all weekend and was just looking to canvas opinion as to whether or not 3.5 weeks after potential conception was long enough to get an accurate negative test?

Thanks

Chillisboper - yes, got it in one! I will have to do another test, but won't be able to get to a shop, or my doctor for a couple of days, so was turning to the good ole Internet for some ideas... Thanks

In all honesty I think it's unlikely. 3.5 is long enough in a lot of cases and you would have had other symptoms and by 22 weeks I had a nice bump! I sometimes get flutterings in my tummy (had my DS 6 months ago) and I'm not pregnant again, it could be wind/gas etc!

DaleyBump · 18/08/2013 23:10

Would like to say, it is possible. Read this.

I am a little on the chubby side, and managed to miss my first pregnancy until I was c18 weeks... Morning after pill, normal periods, no sickness, no additional bump etc.

Eek.

Thank you for the responses.

Why dont you just do a test now??? It would definately show.... lol

annaban · 18/08/2013 23:42

I definitely will, I'm just not going to be able to get one for a couple of days due to certain circumstances... So I've got 2 days of wondering if the first test was taken at the correct time to accurately show a negative...

I would speak to the doc. In the early days of my pregnancy, I asked the midwife about that accuracy of tests. As part of her explanation she told me that from about 20 weeks, tests are likely to be negative because the hormone the test is looking for is not being produced any more at that stage. So even if you do a test, it might still be negative.

annaban · 18/08/2013 23:55

Thanks Carole803, that's good advice. Docs ASAP it is!!!

You won't need a pg test at 22 weeks Hmm

Liie flat oon youur back and prod your uterus. It'll be pretty damn obvious if there's a baby in there.

DaleyBump · 19/08/2013 02:15

It's certainly the most scientific way to determine a pregnancy.

A friend of mine was 'diagnosed' as around 20 weeks pregnant when she went to the docs thinking IBS was playing up...she was scanned and was actually 28wks. So it is possible not to have an obvious bump. She was however on the implant so never had periods anyway...but I have heard of people still having the usual monthly bleed through out. Good luck!
