Is it supposed to be this painful??? Breech baby at 35 weeks

For past few days I've been in agony... when I get up from a chair/the toilet, off the couch, when I'm standing, climbing stairs, walking, tossing from side to side in bed, and just generally moving ...

As far as I know, his feet are right down at the bottom... not a kick in the arse (sorry no pun intended!!) from my poontang!! The pain can be very sharp and strong sometimes especially down there!!

If I end up getting a section at 39 weeks... I am actually wondering how the hell I am going to get through the next FOUR weeks... :-( :-( :-(

Am exhausted at being so sore I can't settle and sleep... and am white as a sheet with the pain... my darling actually asked me a while ago if it was contractions I was having (def no)!!!

Does anyone else have this? Is this normal for breech babies in late preg......???

Thanks so much for reading xxx

Omg I'm so glad u posted this - I'm in absolute agony as well was considering phoning midwife. I'm 35 + 2 with breech bubba! Haven't slept all last night and still in bed as I type. Keep getting electric shock like pains which I'm assuming is baby on a nerve between my legs and baby is moving around constantly - thought maybe she's trying to turn.

Hospital told me turning is v unlikely due to tightness of stomach muscles in first preg. She's constantly kicking tho - only relief I get it walking about but soon as sit or lie down it all starts again xx

I was the same at 35w, had no idea how i was going to cope until term... then the baby turned while I was asleep one night- the relief was instantaneous! Have a look on spinning babies website about techniques to try and get a breech baby to turn. I really sympathise, it is so painful and I was so miserable!

Oh I feel your pain! I'm 36+4 with a breech baby(first one) and her giant rock hard head is stabbing me under the ribs and it's bloody painful! I'm not getting any kicks in the foof (I think her feet are up by her head) but going up and down stairs, sometimes coughing, or pulling a shirt down over my bump is all like ow ow ow. Like an internal bruise that she keeps headbutting. I've been doing every sodding exercise on Spinning Babies, I'm forever bending over and on the birth ball and I've had moxa and osteopathy and this little lady is not turning. I have a presentation scan tomorrow to confirm her breechiness and figure out what to do. Tbh I'm just glad she's active and squirmy and while I dreamed of a hippy birth I'm just happy to do whatever to get her out safely! Are you feeling her head much?

Thanks so much for posting y'all xxx

He is kicking etc a LOT... his feet feel right at the bottom which I think is what they call 'footling' breech..? It's bloody agony and takes my breath away at times! His wee hard head is right at the top where my diaphragm is and moves a lot too... he's certainly an active wee soul! But oh the PAIN!!!

Sometimes I have to make the effort to breathe very deeply especially when I am in bed trying to sleep otherwise I feel as if I'm not getting enough of an intake of air...

I feel it the worst when I am vertical, walking, etc, and do get some relief when I sit down although he still kicks away... ALSO when I am up and on my feet doing housework and stuff, my lower back starts to THROB which is apparently because he's also back to back!?

Crikey. For those of you whose wee one turned... at what point did they do so?

I have been sitting on my ball and on all fours with forehead on wrists, bum in the air, but I don't think it's making any difference... and HOW to get through another 4 or so weeks of this......?!?!?!?!?!

The crotch kicks are agony, you poor thing :(

Do have a look at the Spinning Babies website for some more techniques to encourage your baby to flip.

I know someone who had acupuncture to turn their baby, the baby did turn, don't know if the acupuncture did it, but maybe worth a try?

Someone else mentioned putting cold packs on the diaphragm area to encourage baby to move away.

I had the feeling of not being able to breathe with ds3 who is now 7 weeks. From about 32 weeks I had to keep getting up at night to walk around to try and get some air and on the night before I was induced I ended up having a panic attack as I felt I was suffocating it was awful! I was so relieved they induced me that day even though i was shattered as had been up all night. And he wasn't breech.

Hope they turn soon for you!

You have my sympathies too. My son was breech and I can remember the feeling of being kicked in the groin and having a hard head poking me between the ribs - not pleasant. I think it's more uncomfortable if you're a small build too. My son didn't turn and was delivered by c-section in the end. All absolutely fine and not as awful as I'd imagined. I'd been hoping for a water birth!

1 Get or borrow a car with crap suspension

  1. Go for a ride in said car on a very bumpy road (plenty of them round here)
  2. Lift arse off seat as agonising pains make you think you're in labour, which you won't be
  3. Go for an antenatal checkup to find baby has turned at 38 weeks
Worked for me in first pregnancy..... Grin Seriously though, never say never. You have my sympathy. Dc is now 18 and I can still remember her rubbing her head along my ribs.....
