Anyone gone on maternity leave early due to SPD

I'm 19 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby. I had bad SPD with my 2nd, but wasn't working at the time so could rest a bit more.
I have a job now and was hoping to carry on working until 36 weeks pregnant.
I can feel the start of SPD coming on already and was wondering how many of you this has meant u've had to stop working early and go on maternity leave?

Thanks in advance Grin

I went on sick two weeks before I was due to go on maternity with ds1 then fell pregnant with ds2 3 months after ds1 was born and the spd came back almost instantly and I knew I couldn't return to work.worst pain ever and still get it after ds2.

You can be signed off sick til 36 weeks (iirc) and then you'd need to start ML.

I didn't suffer badly, but found taking a wednesday afternoon off, and later a whole wednesday, as holiday just to rest helped a lot.

Hope it doesn't get too bad for you.

Perhaps your employer could make adaptations to make it easier for you to continue to work.just a thought it might be worth talking to them,I think they have an obligation to do so.

Try and get a referral to physio. After being fobbed off over and over by the midwife I got a referral and I've got specific exercises for the problem.

It means I'll be able to cope a little longer, but am expecting to have to leave early again

This is my third pregnancy, the spd was earlier and worse than in my first two pregnancies, and it was awful in those!

I have been virtually cured by private physio. Google the " pelvic foundation" and find someone near you. Best eighty quid I've ever spent (2 hour long sessions). Basically I was doing squats and its astonished me how well its worked.

I had severe SPD with DC 1, got signed off sick around 30 weeks as I couldn't walk at all and only left the house in a wheel chair. Second pregnancy I did Pilates to prepare my body, plus physio all the way through and I basically kept my knees together the entire time! I controlled the symptoms well enough so that I only ended up with crutches at 36 weeks and could still drive short distances. Went on mat leave at 36 weeks. I recovered much better after the baby was born and could walk and push my baby in his pram, which I couldn't do for the first 4 weeks with DC1. Am now preggers with DC3 and I've not prepared at all...have got v mild symptoms now and am 15 weeks, but I'll be asking for physio again as soon as it progresses.

My advice would be don't worry about being signed off sick, but also ask your work to accommodate you where they can. With DC2' they used to put 2 arm chairs together for me to recline during meetings - I looked ridiculous, but after the horror of chronic SPD pain during my first pregnancy, I didn't care!!

Good luck getting through and don't be shy asking to get signed off if you need it.
